I have seen numerous threads on this forum that say..." take it to an AD to have it authenticated".blah...blah........make up your mind.....either they can or they cant. What blows my mind is that a Rolex store can't even tell you whether or not the very product they sell is authentic or not!. l bet if I drove up to a Lexus dealership in a Ford...the Lexus people could tell the difference.

AD staff aren't usually as knowledgeable as your average consumer, sadly enough. It's the guy in the back of the store who would be able to help you, if the AD has lucky enough to have a watchmaker on staff.

i have to agree. btw, when was the last time you were at a car dealership? if you are not there to buy, they typically won't give you the time of day. tell them that you want them to check out the engine of a car you bought used, someplace else, just to see if it is good shape. see what they say? i absolutely guarantee you that they will charge you for the service. sound familiar??

There's always going to be variations in service levels and knowledge from dealer to dealer depending on the location, staff and the market. I bought my Submariner brand new, so when it was still under warranty, my AD told me to have it looked at by RSC when it had a piece of lume flake off. They didn't even touch it if it's under warranty. But of course the alternative wasn't bad - it was a 15 minute drive down the highway to visit RSC. Just be glad that you don't own a Patek or Vacheron or a piece on that end. They will almost always be sent away for service compared to Rolex which you can find many more local watchmakers who can service it (at least in Dallas). |

Yes, Jake...it was a green trench coat matter of fact, he wore dark glasses as well, and spoke with an Italian accent.......can't believe I fell for his scam.

[QUOTE=Welshwatchman;4261059]I recommend you march back into the AD and give them another dose of your logic and charm.

Asking a watch salesman to open your watch is similar to asking a car salesman to tint your windows - they don't do it.

If there is no watchmaker then it's not a wise idea for them to take the case back off, even if they are capable of doing so. The seals will need to be checked to make sure you're all waterproofed

Not all ADs have an inhouse watchmaker on duty to perform the task.
