Value of 5513 Sub Meters 1st dial

Can anyone give me an approx value of the following Rolex sub at this moment in time...

Sub 5513 - dated 1973 - Meters 1st, Matt tritium dial Oyster bracelet... ??

I was offered one a couple of years younger than yours for £1800 a couple of months ago.

I don't have access to photos of the watch yet, (as watch is not mine yet) , i do know that the dial is original, but the hands may have been changed by Rolex... It has the double lock clasp steel oyster strap if this helps... ?

Hi Kevin,

If it hasn't been serviced I would factor this into your offer. I suspect the bracelet is the common type 93150, look for the number. If it has the fold-out diver extension it should be 93150 which is the right one for that watch.

One tip though. Look very very closely at the wear on the hinge pin that runs through the flip lock. I have an old 93150 bracelet and the pin was almost worn through. Another couple of months and I think it would broken and I could have lost the watch!

If you can get the watch for around £2K you should be OK. Really good examples with all the bits are closer to £3K.

Yes thank you for your advice (especially re the hinge pin !), i forgot to say that the watch does not have original papers - but i guess for a Rolex of this age it is not suprising ?

That would have been a good deal for a metres 1st dial
Most I have seen with original dial and hands etc... in dealers have been a minimum of £2500 to 3 grand.

I would say if the hands are replacements £1800 to 2 grand would be a fair price anything less than that would be a bargain.
If you have been looking for one as a vintage piece specifically though, I would wait until you get a totally original one otherwise you won't be happy.

As Gurmot says factor a service in to the equasion.
It will cost you around £256 for a standard Rolex service with age surcharge and the price increase just before last Christmas, which will give you Rolex Service papers for the watch anyway.

Thanks for your advice, i agree metres 1st 5513s seem to be rarer than ft 1st..

I also agree it is better if u can find a completely original watch, but these can be tricky to find, and if u do they are much more expensive...

Can you or someone else let me know what is MORE important to have original - Dial / Hands / Bracelet / acrylic crystal ?

That's a lovely 5513. What age is it? Is that the original dial? Mine has uneven discolouration with the lume and I'm thinking about a re-lume although not too sure.

Top priorities are dial and hands, make sure case and caseback have no serious dings, little scratches can be polished out. Bracelets and crystals can be changed relatively easily without negative impact on value.

The crystal is not really an issue, Rolex will change that at service anyway to make sure of waterproofing.
The bracelet isn't really either as the watch would have had a folded bracelet when new and unless you want total originality in all honesty they are pretty crap, so a solid bracelet is better IMO, but it would be great to have both.
The dial and hands are the main thing cosmetically and if you are really lucky dial, hands and bezel insert.

My bezel insert isn't original, but it almost matches so is quite old.

The dial and hands sometimes degrade differently anyway so it may be the hands on the watch you are viewing are original it is quite hard to tell sometimes, unless they are very obviously new.

My watch is 1968 and the dial is original as are the hands.
I have seen your pics and yes the patina is a little uneven, but that gives the watch a uniqueness.
I wouldn't personally have yours relumed as they never really look right IMO, but it is your watch.
If it bothers you that much you could always sell yours and hunt another down with a more even Patina, but mine is not for sale
