I would flip all three of those in a heartbeat, but I also am not a big fan of the Daytona. The added servicing cost and no beautiful sweeping second hand are a no-go for me.

I would do it as well. What made me decide that for you is that you told us the three watches you are trading have issues for you in terms of wrist time, weight, etc... It sounds like a really good move for your situation and will get your collection closer to where you want it to be. Good luck sir and keep us posted!

Thank You, everyone, for your responses. Regarding Zenith or AP RO, I've tried a few Zenith but I'm concerned about service cost on the movement and resale, and the only versions I like from AP are the chrono's which are out of my price range even used. I've also considered the VC overseas but I don't know of any local dealers.

It sounds like I should do this so you may see some sales posts from me in a few weeks. The only thing that irks me about the Daytona is that it looks smaller on my wrist than my GMT and Hulk even though it is supposed to be the same. I need to go in and try one on again before making the leap.

Sounds like a sensible plan.

I have the white dial SS Daytona and it is an awesome watch...with one caveat: the sub dials are difficult to read and I have good eyesight and do not wear glasses.

When its overcast, its ok, but very hard in bright sunlight.

If you plan on using the chronograph extensively, and require instant legibility and precision, you may be disappointed with the Daytona.

Ask to look at one outside the shop, when its sunny to see if this is a deal breaker for you. If not, get it, if so...

Consider a Breitling Navitimer. Retails around 8K and is an iconic chronograph with very legible, practical sub dials. You can choose from a steel bracelet or leather strap. Precious metal versions are available too. As chronograph, I believe it's superior to the Daytona, in terms of practicality. The movement is now in-house and gets raves. It's not too big at 43mm, by today's standards, and you are already accustomed to large watches like the Panerai and Omega PO.

In Los Angeles, there is a great AD, Feldmars...they do negotiate price and will ship to wherever you are (and that will save you the sales tax). You can probably trade with them, or sell your watches yourself (which would bring you more $ anyway).

But, if you love the Daytona...and don't mind it's hard to read sub-dials (or don't find the, hard to read) , have at it...

Thanks for the advice on practicality. I have yet to use any of my chrono's for timing anything important. I wonder if visibility is any different with the black dial.

Make sure the size is OK for you as the new ceramics wear like 42mm and the Daytona like a 39mm so they are not the same size at all.

Well hopefully you got a good discount on the 3 that you want to sell or you bought them second hand. Other wise you might have to prepare yourself to take a bath in the loss.

Ultimately it's better to put the funds in to something that you love and want to wear all the time and if the 3 that you have are sitting there collecting dust then easy choice.

Very true. I think I did okay when I bought them. I'll post how much of a bath I took after it's all done. I do still want to wear the PO but not as much as the GMT, Subs, and 244. I don't feel it's in the same league.
