Service question
Should one service a submariner if it has been in a safe for 5 years and worn a handful of times ?
Thanks |

Short answer no but why keep in a safe Rolex watches are meant to be worn on the wrist and not sat in some safe.

Impossible to answer without knowing how well the watch is running or what a person intends to do with it for the next five years

You will see different answers on service, but, my concern would be lubrication and the gasket seal. It depends on how the watch has been placed in the safe and lubrication tends to go to the lowest point. I would have the watch gasket checked and see if it needs lubrication. jmho

If its losing a significant amount of time in a 24 hour period, yes.
Otherwise I'd say no. It's a bit of a workhorse. |

I'd get it checked out and let the watchmaker advise you.

If you decide on no service at least get it pressure tested. Good luck, post up a pic once you get it.
BTW welcome to TRF, great bunch here.

Wear it and if it is keeping good time then leave it.
They don't deteriorate in 5 years. I had a GMT which had not been serviced since new 10 years ago and it was running fine and the only reason I only got it serviced was it was for sale and it had no papers. |

Wear it and see what kind of time it keeps, I have a 14060m going on 10 years and 16710 going on 8 years and both are deadly accurate...
BTW, I do have the sub pressure tested once a year, so I would recommend that at a minimum before you get it wet. |
