This seems a bit questionable

an individual in my area has posted this watch for sale on both craigslist and ebay. it has in my opinion an aftermarket dial and hands and strap, when i asked the seller about the peculiar looks of the watch attempted to assure me it was just a very rare watch. So i guss this is a heads up I am thinking of reporting the sale to ebay to be taken down so an unsuspecting buyer isent screwed when the try and send it to the local RSC and find out its a franken watch. here is a link.

whats everyone else think?

I have to say I am disappointed a member of TRF would attempt to be dishonest claiming he did not know it was a redial to me after alrady hearing from numerous people the truth about it on here, But then again that is the point of the "watch out" forum to give a heads up to people about potentially fake or fraken watches etc. It clearly is the same watch and the seller is trying to dump it now that he knows the truth...

First of all, I never attempted to tell you anything, if youd like I can email you copies of our emails. You told me it was worth 300 and it had aftermarket parts on it. Please do not put words in my mouth. Again, if youd like copies of the email please let me know

To help paint a more complete picture of this watch's "journey".....

Here is what appears to be the eBay auction where the watch was originally purchased by Pyclah:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Role...p2047675.l2557 (You may need to sign into your eBay account to see this as it is a completed auction)

Ive given my opinion of it from the pictures ( afermarket dial. and hands), so i shall defer to more seasoned veterans of TRF to give a different opinion if they disagree. Also i think you should post our emails on the subject because i think there will be no room for confusion on the issue of misleading people on the originality of the watch

1st email from Rusty to me
Hello,
This is just a friendly heads up about your oyster royal , what you have here is what we in the industry call a redial where someone has either replaced a damaged Rolex dial with a new dial or simply painted over the old dial significantly reducing its value, based on the fact that it needs service again i would assume its last service was done by the same individual who replaced the dial and hands because if you were to send that watch back to the local RSC (rolex service center) for work they would require the dial to be replaced as well as the after-market hands they added. these types of modified watched tend to turn up on eBay a lot, coming out of other countries and tend to go in running condition in the $600 dollar range, the long in the short of it is that if the person who "appraised" it for 800 will buy it from you for that price then i would take it and remove it from craigslist. A reputable dealer or even a pawn shop would probably pay you in the $300 dollar range for it in the condition its in.

Good luck and have a great day

From me to Rusty
Thank you rusty, I am aware of what I have, just not quite sure what the point of your email was. If you are offering me 300 dollars then I will kindly pass thank you

This was not an offer to buy your watch it was an attempt at a friendly reminder that, when you describe it as a " very rare rolex oyster royal, it's has the California dial with the Mercedes hour hand" and don't mention the aftermarket parts and work it gives the impression to some in the business that your trying to pull one over on an unsuspecting buyer. The buyer will probably wish you had a return policy when they find out the difficulty and cost in having the watch restored, but most importantly you wouldn't want to ruin your positive feedback for "the_bargain_closet", I will be real interested to see the final bid price.

Rusty

Rusty I'm going to have contact rolex to verify, everyone I ask has a different answer on this stupid thing. The dial being refinished I understand, but now you are telling me that the hands are not original. Thank you for looking out, I definitely don't want to sell anyone a fake piece of junk, and your definitely right I don't want to get a bad rating for my eBay store especially over a couple of hundred dollar watch.

Now where in that conversation did I try to convince you of anything

ps..

"Why do you think it's refinished dial, I'm not really familiar with vintage rolex. I was explained that it was semi Cali dial. And the MB hands, Those are on the semi Cali dial. "

Claiming ignorance after having been given a through explanation on the matter here..

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=311618

definitely gives off the vibe of trying to not be honest.

to defend my valuation I point to the original valuation by other members of the form of around $500 but that was before it was known that it needed to be at least cleaned and serviced and there is no way to get a vintage rolex serviced for less then $150 ( that ive ever heard of anyway) assuming it needs no parts so i i think 300 in "as-is" condition is about right but again if someone witch more knowledge thinks this is a poor assessment then feel free to chime in.

Rusty your appraisal of my watch has no significance, after posting a whole 9 times on this forum your expertise has no value.

There is some good logic right here. New members don't know anything. Check!
I just joined a new poker group. I hope the members share your thoughts on what new members know. I could use a new Day Date.
