White Gold, Yellow Gold, Platinum....

Why has Rolex, or anyone else never made a Sterling Silver Watch? It would have a better luster than Stainless Steel. It would be durable, although might need to be lightly polished more often due to tarnishing.

Is there any technical reasons this has not be done? Has this ever been asked?

I ask because I have worn the same Sterling Silver Necklace for over 15 years. It looks as good as the day I bought it, and I NEVER take it off.

There must be a reason this has not been done, or has it?

I would say tarnishing would be the key reason especially if you are using it as a divers watch. Stainless steel is a lot more durable than sterling silver.

Gold is more durable than Sterling Silver and is also more scratch-resistant and does not tarnish. Gold may oxidize....it gets a little orangish rustic hue.

Technically gold doesn't oxidize... It's the alloys that may oxidize depending on composition.

I believe that a couple of vintage rolex watches were made of silver. Sky rocket I think- could be mistaken
