Question for deep sea dweller (116660) owners
So I'm close to pulling the trigger on a new 116660. Looked at one in person and liked it a lot. My only hesitation is that while the weight is fine and it doesn't look too big on my wrist, will I think differently six months from now. I can only afford one Rolex and I want to make the right call. The sub-c is my other option, but it looks a little smaller than I'm used too (currently wear a Casio MTG).
Do any of you 116660 owners ever find yourself asking "why did I buy that big-ass thing??" Jim |

I recently sold a Sub-C because I couldn't shake the feeling that it was too small for my size and now I'm on the hunt for a DSSD at the right price. Although the DSSD is big for a Rolex, it's only modestly sized compared to many other modern pieces. Heck, many of the "boyfriend" style fashion watches that are popular with young ladies are bigger than the Deep Sea! I say go for it.

IMHO, it totally depends on wrist size. I have a DeepSea.....but I wouldn't have it for my only Rolex. I prefer to wear a smaller Rolex on a day to day basis. Personally, I wouldn't buy it for my one and only.

first off, good question and congrats. you're doing your homework prior to a big purchase.
my wrist is 7.25" and i have no issues with it. my ONLY problem with the watch is that ever since i got a rubber-b for it, i doubt i'll ever put the ss band back on. the reduction in weight makes the watch feel more agile and i like to wear my watches on the loose side. remember, this is a deep water tool watch. in the deep (ironically the environment for which it was engineered but rarely sees), its lighter so it'll always tip the scales compared to others in regular use. still, no regrets except that i can only wear one watch at a time and they almost all seem to be on the block when not in rotation. good luck |

I have both and am reluctant to advise the DSSD as your only watch. It's great in rotation, but the Sub is more versatile IMHO. Good luck and I hope this helps and doesn't confuse the issue for you.

I bought my DSSD about two months ago - I have a 9 inch wrist - I have 12 Rolexes (including the DSSD) that I used to rotate every 3-4 days. Since buying the DSSD it's been out of rotation about 3 days in total. In short, I HATE my DSSD, as it basically turned me into a "one Rolex" person !

Same as above, bought mine not far off two months ago, it is not a big watch compared to many others out there at the moment. My Omega PO 8500 XL is bigger and the Sub is just too small for my wrist and preference.
If you get a good deal on a DSSD now, and fall out of love with it in six months time, you should be able to sell it for what you paid for it. |

It can be a one and only.
All personal preference. When sized properly, it wears very nicely. |

Flipped mine after 2 months not because I didn't love it however for first month I didn't wear a shirt and tie. Changed jobs where cuffs are requirement and I struggled with the height of it.
If I could afford 2 watches it would have stayed but as a one rolex man for the moment I needed an all rounder. Now got a GMT iiC and love it. |

Flipped mine for a sub c date. The DS is great but for a one watch worn 24/7 got tired of the thickness . Second reason was that the bezel moved way to easy.

I really appreciate all the replies. It says a lot about this forum. I am also a regular on the Walther forum and it would take me two weeks to get 18 replies! You guys did that in a few hours.
Thanks! Jim |

I'm 5 ft 9, 165 pounds and have a 6.5 inch wrist. The Sub may be more versatile but the DSSD has more wrist presence. The DSSD is my top fave of all my crowns and my only question is why the heck do I just have one? I'm on the fence now about getting another DSSD or the Batman.

You can ask 20 persons and you'll get 20 different and subjective answers. Only you can answer this. Personally, as much as I dig the DSSD, I don't see it as an ideal EDC watch, nor something that I will have on my wrist when I'm 70 years old. A Sub or GMTIIC would be a better choice IMO.

how about 216570 EXP II instead?
I had the DSSD as my first and only Rolex in May... but down the road I just "want" another white face to compliment the DSSD The comfort of the DSSD on Rubber B is really enjoyable... but when I wear my DSSD I can't help to stare at it and admire the layers of details constantly, that I usually would have to look at it again to tell the time :P Now I wear the 216570 EXP II more often as I hate to keep turning the crown just to get to the correct date |
