Icon3 Rolex Air King Date

Hi,

I would really appreciate advice re. whether I should buy this rolex air king date.
The seller knows very little detail about, ie year, cal etc.

I understand through reading other forum posts that the air king date is relatively rare, and from the looks of the photos it does look to be in ok condition, but not being able to see the movement worries me.

What do you think? any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Price quoted is around $1400

That's a Rolex ref 5700 with a cal 1525 movement. I'd say, judging from the dial and folded link oyster bracelet, it dates from the early 1970s. Also, $1400 is a great price. The 5700 was sold mainly in the commonwealth nations and its not really a rare watch. They come up for sale all the time. However, you won't be tripping over them either. It's a great piece with tons of history.

Thanks Joe100, so that puts it at 35mm without the crown right?
And you think, judging by the photos that it looks ok?

It's 34mm. The watch head looks okay. Appears some folks have used the wrong tools to open the caseback and by looking at it, it appears they tried more than once. The bracelet has some stretch to it but I can't tell how bad it is from these photos. A competent Rolex watchmaker can tighten up the links a bit. If I were you, I'd factor in a new bracelet. Either a 7835 or even better a 78350 with 557 endlinks. The 78350 is machined and will be much more durable. Up to you though

Despite the fact that the watch looks clean, check the inside. Its important, otherwise you just buy " pig in bag".

1400 dollars sounds like a good price, it needs a little work but that is ok

5700 is a great watch. This one looks a lot like my wife's. 1400 is a good price, assuming the insides aren't mangled as others have mentioned.

Great deal. They are common in Canada as gifts from coca cola for 25 yrs of service. Looks like the orig 7835 band. If you buy it beware of where the band hooks into the endlink. These tubes fail. Mine did

Looks great cfw, I'm quite happy with that dial being from 1964 too. Well-found!

Thanks Joe, I am glad the dial is period correct. The Airking has that classic Rolex look without shouting it out and I love that
