Agreed. The tech specs will be known to you and not many around you. Which do "you like better" is the real key. I have never been a fan of the cyclops and to me Subs were more common, which made the SD stand out as more unique to me.

Dive watches are like SUV's - much more than any person needs, rarely called upon to do what they were built for.
That said, do you want a Tahoe/Cherokee/X5 or a Hummer ?

I'd rather have an old school SeaDweller than a SubC. Nothing to do with respect, I just prefer the SD.

Buy the watch that sings to you. SubC is classic Rolex and I suspect more people will recognise the Sub, but if it doesn't give you joy when you see it on your wrist then it is not the watch for you.

For daily wear the sub c has the convenient adjustability of the glidelock clasp.
Go with whichever one you like best. I think the vast majority of the general population would be hard pressed to tell the difference between them anyway, let alone draw inferences about "respect." |

For me I'd take the SD... (might be a little biased as I own one)
I prefer the older style bezel, and I have seen many Subs new and old in the wild, but never another SD... so thats my pick! Also like the over-engineering with the higher depth rating and helium valve... even though I will never use the features, I love knowing they are there

This sounds like an Ali G question to me. If you believe you need a particular watch to get respect from other people I would suggest spending the money on a psychiatrist before you buy a watch.

I like the SUV model analogy.....if you want a Hummer (classic version NOT H3 or watered down version) go with the DSSD. The key with the DSSD is getting it sized appropriately for your wrist. I had the divers extension removed and now I wear it daily. The DSSD has many of the features I was looking for and wanting in a watch, domed sapphire, maxi/matte dial, and the glidelock clasp for easy size adjusting. So IMO the DSSD is the way to go.

I don't get the DSSD isa Hummer analogy as it is an insult to the Rolex. The DSSD is over-engineered but actually remarkably compact when you consider the specs. Sure, it is not the ideal one-and-only watch IMO, and of course it is an overkill but I view it more as a testimony to what we humans are capable of and a celebration of extreme exploration and never-dying curiosity. It is like no other production Rolex.
Sometimes you just have to stop over-rationalizing decisions and go with what puts a smile on your face. :-) |

Win / Win.
I like the SubC slightly more because I prefer the ceramic bezel and glidelock clasp. Are you thinking 114060, or 116610? |

The Glidelock clasp and the cyclops (if your eyes are over 50) sways me towards the Sub-C but, as stated by others above, the SD is more unique and not as ubiquitous in the wild.
That said, you have to get the one that sings to you.

The SD is a major tool watch - much respect.
