Red/Black Alternating Color Date on the DJ

Why does Rolex have the red/black alternating date wheel on the DJ? I was looking for a black dial version of the 36mm and the alternating colors was the only option. I don't mind, I was just curious. Thanks!

Some of the DJ's contain a roulette date wheel - one colour for odd numbers and another colour for even numbers.

You can get some models with, and some without this particular date wheel, I think.

As far as I'm aware there doesn't seem to be an exact pattern of which models have the roulette wheel.

There is a pattern. It all depends on what type of dial you have. I am not a fan of the roulette dial either.

Is it just down to the dial? I'm sure I've seen a silver baton dial datejust with a roulette wheel and and one without.

I could be wrong...

Do the new 2013 models have this also or was it when Rolex updated the new Datejust?

As far as I'm aware the roulette wheel was added to certain models when they updated Datejusts.

I don't think newer series Datejusts have roulette wheels. Too bad.
