Scott Carpenter has died.
I just learned that Scott Carpenter, one of the original Mercury astronauts, has died. I have always admired America's first space pioneers, of which Scott was among the very first group. He was the second to orbit the Earth.
As I have posted before, earlier this year, I bought the commemorative Breitling Cosmonaute, a Navitimer similar to the one worn by Commander Carpenter during that mission. The watch has a 24 hour dial. The case back bears his name. It just so happened that I am wearing that watch today, the day of Commander Carpenter's death. I'm glad to wear it today, of all days, it helps me to pause and wish Commander Carpenter Godspeed as he begins his next journey. Thank you for your service, to America and to humankind, Commander. Rest in Peace. |

RIP to him, surely a big name intertwined with the history of the Navi Cosmo!
