Serial numbers and servicing question

So, if buy a z, v or other relatively recent series from a Trusted Seller am I looking at a service immediately without knowing the history of the watch? Thank you.

I guess you could send it to RSC and they could tell you the service history of the watch, if any, and then you could decide what to do.

I think you can call RSC and they should be able to tell you. I am not 100% sure though. Worth a try for sure!

I'm betting most of the watches in those year ranges have not been serviced unless mentioned. So, I guess that is another $600+ added to the cost of the watch unless I am missing something.

It's a fair question to the seller but you may want to judge your purchase by first putting it on a timer to measure the amplitude and the accuracy before sending it to Rolex.

In addition, the seller may not know the service history so making that judgement first may be more relevant. I sold an Explorer recently and as the second owner, I didn't know the full history but, I was able to provide several data points to the buyer which helped assure him that it was a strong, accurate watch.

It just seems to me that if you are buying a watch that is 5-7 years old with an unknown history you need to factor in a cost for service. Just something to think about when buying used.

Well Z serial could be from 2006/7 or possibly later, while a V serial could be from 2008 into 2010.So its doubtful if any of these serials would need a service straight away especially the V serials.Now watches in general will tell you when they need a service as time keeping in general will not be as good as COSC spec Average -4 to +6 seconds over any 24 hour period.But if going to be used in water then a pressure check would be advisable any good high street watchmaker could test to 100-300m.If it passes even a 100m test it will be fine for all normal water sports.Although Rolex recommends a 5 year service with today's mainly pampered watches every 7/8 years will be fine that's watches not used in water regular.

I assume "not used in water" does not include normal soap and water cleaning?

By using in water I mean full submersed to say over 5- 10m, normal soap water cleaning will be fine, just keep crown screwed down just finger tight do not over tighten.
