new style rolex box
I've seen two different types of the new rolex box set. Are there two variations or is one a fake?
Box 1: Light yellowish color outer box with leather wrapped rolex green inner presentation box. 6.5"L x 5"D x 3.5"H Box 2: Same as previous except slightly larger (same height but about 1" longer & 1/2" deeper) and the outer box has a flip down section so you can get the green rolex box out easier. The fold down flap also has a the word "rolex" with the crown above it printed on it. Are they both real or one a copy? |

There have been made various boxes during times.
Here is an article about boxes. The article shows the current and predecessor boxes. You can also see more boxes on this site. The box number 2 you mention sounds like the right thing. There are THREE versions of the current boxes with "wave" pattern link: Small, Medium and Large size. Here is a pic of the difference between the small and Medium box (small one for my Daytona, Medium one for my now flipped SD). Large box comes for the DD: SD box (note the flap): (my own pic) Daytona box (no flap): (my own pic) Comparison pic of the outer cases:

The larger box is for the DateJust and such, the smaller boxes are from the sport models. At least that's how they were for mine.

Interesting that the AD decides which watch goes into which box at the store, and is not sent from Rolex with boxes.

My DD came in the larger box and the GMT IIC came in the smaller one,so it appears to bear out what the other forum members have said.

There are actually 3-box sizes not 2. Your DD should of come in the biggest one not the meduim one.

AD's would waste a lot of time if they were the ones to chose the boxes. The AD that i bought the watch from told me that he receives the watch in the box

Hmmmm...

However, I took it from someone else's statement that Rolex shipped watches in odd little unmarked perspex holders and that boxes were allocated at the AD. Stand to be corrected.

[QUOTE=JostheBoss;459639What got me thinking is the fact that my 116710LN came in a small box, and the cardboard outer sleeve had the name and model number on it (not serial #). Therefore it must have been shipped like that.
[/QUOTE] Same thing here

Yes, he lied. Looks like I got the small box instead of the medium for my Sub. Sorry.
Outer sleeves at 20 paces! One wrong move and the AD gets it

It kind makes sense not to ship the watches in their boxes:
1 Risk of damage to box, then must send away for new one before you can sell watch 2. Space and shipping costs will be higher Rather send a whole bunch of boxes to your AD's (like the promotional tabletops and shopfronts) under agreement they don't sell them, and will return surplus, and ship watches in a tough, disposable item. My AD gave me on of them to store my watch in for trips, etc. It's a perspex box with a lid (unbranded) and 2 styrofoam inserts which generically hold any rolex/watch in place with case protected against shock. I don't have a pic but someone posted one a while back. I'll show you all soon!

My AD told me that watches with gold get the larger box and SS get the smaller. My DJ came with the large and GMT the small.

There is a fourth size box as well. If you are lucky enough to get a Pearlmaster wrapped in diamonds the box is jewelry box sized and has additional compartments inside.
