I really don"t see any 5512's

I'm always seening 5513's for sale and people showing them off. Are 5512's rare or do people just not want them. I can't remember the last time I saw one posted let alone for sale.

From my references: "One could say the ref.5512 is more sought-after (and thus more expensive) than the ref.5513 because of the production numbers, which could be true. It does at least sound more logical than the fact that it would be more sought-after because it has a chronometer-certified movement."

5512's are not particularly rare at all ~ produced from 1958 to 1978. Not sure about the meters first.

The change from the gilt gloss dialed 5513 to the meters first matte dialed 5513 started around the 1.6 mil serial range or 1966. The majority of the cases stamped with a 1.7 serial number were produced in 1968, and by then the meters first matte dial was in full production. However the period from late 1969 to early 1970, consistent with the 2.2 mil serial range, represents an overlap in which both meters first and feet first matte 5513 dials can be found.
With the meters first matte dial produced for only a few years and the small amount of 5512 produced during this time compared to 5513, I would not say rare, but perhaps seldom seen.
Here is my 5512 from '67

Thanks, for a while I thought they were the forgotten Rolex. Like I said I'm always seeing 5513's. I haven't seen too many 5512's and now when I do their going for crazy money.

How can you see it's unpolished?

I am recently bitten by the rolex bug. After years of panerai i have a new brand i love and i am reading about. Still saving for my first one, but i know it will be a 5512 or 5513 if i can find one i can trust and is in my budget.

Great 5512's! Did this model got famous after Steve Mc Queen wore one? Or why is it called the McQueen model?

Technically, I believe the meters-first dials on the 5512s are more common than feet-first dials. The 5512s ran from 1959 to 1978, I think, with the last 8-9 years being made with feet-first dials. I never understood why some people prefer meters-first dials, everything else being equal. They're not necessarily more rare, but they are older, and often came on gilt dials. Here's mine, proudly feet first and matte.
