Explorer 214270 Issue

I've owned this 39mm Explorer for well over a year without any issues. Unfortunately, this past Monday morning I noticed that it wound down after not wearing it all weekend. The watch ran all day without any issues, however by the following morning it had again stopped - this happened for the next few days. Yesterday, after doing some reading I manually wound the crown about 40 rotations, but the watch again stopped by this morning (at around 3-4am).

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to diagnose and figure out if this is a real problem before I take the watch in for service (rolex is closed until 1/6/13). Thank you in advance.

Take it in before warranty is up. Don't play games with people here trying to diagnose your problem.

As long as you're winding it and wearing it enough, it should stay running. So it's likely something wrong with the auto winding function. Only solution is to get it checked out.

Had that happen with a GMT Master II. PR would only be around eight hours. Worked fine on the wrist, but off it would stop. Turned out to be a kink in the hairspring. Easy fix but drives you nuts.

I'm happy to report that the issue seems to have resolved itself. After manually winding the watch, its back on a regular schedule. Lesson learned, will now wear it on the weekends to similar issues. Thanks to all that responded and apologies for jumping the gun.

Happy New Year!

I would still go to RSC and get it checked out before the warranty is up. Better to be safe than sorry.

I see you live in NYC should be easy enough to go to the RSC and have it checked out

Well first it depends on how you are manually winding your watch to fully wind it needs 40 full 360* crown turns clockwise only..Then it should run around 40 - 48 hours while off wrist give or take a hour or so.Then you should fully wind it again before putting back on the wrist. And even when worn regular it will do no harm whatsoever to give watch a full manual wind say once a week.
