OK, bought my new GMTIIc and have had it shipped out of state to avoid tax. So, need to have it shipped back you me.

Question - What is the best way to ship (USPS, UPS, FedEx?) Obviously, insured and probably overnight I'd guess...

Anyone have any advice?

USPS. They will insure overnight up to $5,000. More if you go slow with the registered way. Shipped two this way overnight and had no problems at all.

Don't use FedEx. They consider watches to be jewelry and will only insure up to $500.

Well, the watch alone is worth 6K so, not liking USPS as the max is 5K with them. I did fedex online and they allow you to put as much value as you need.?? What does RSC recommend?

Does FedEx know it is a watch you are shipping?

I too, learned about this restriction with FEDEX. They will not cover a watch if its lost or damaged...even if you pay for thousands of dollars in extra insurance cover. Total rubbish, if you ask me....but it's their rule.

FEDEX will only pay $100. Even if you declare greater value. Ask them. I would never ship via fedex.

As Abigsecret said, RSC requires that all watches sent to them be sent by USPS Registered mail.

USPS Registered can be insured for up to $25,000.

Just pack the watch in a plain box and the clerk at the Post Office will seal all the seams on it with brown tape - as well as a bunch of rubber stamps, etc.

Registered is not the fastest way to send a watch, but it is thge most secure as it must be kept locked up in a secure area when not in transit and each person handling the package along the way must sign for it, as must the recipient.

I know Fedex is frowned upon as a general rule, but I just sold a watch to a guy in Hong Kong and he insisted on Fedex shipping. I told him I was not responsible for it once it left my possession if he chose Fedex and he still insisted on it. OK I said and off it went. I just got confirmation that is was delivered and the guy emailed to say it arrived hunky dory so I breathed a BIG sigh of relief!

Yes, registered USPS is insurable to a very high limit. I just wasn't checking that option and just try to send reg + insured.

I'll be shipping USPS Priority - Registered with insurance (2 day)!
