BMW Assist

So coming to the end of my first free year of BMW assist and wondering if it's worth renewing. Anyone out there use the service frequently? In Canada it's about $200/year vs less than $100 for CAA. My thought is that I haven't used it yet but perhaps I'm missing out on some of the features. Any users out there?

Like any insurance, actuaries have worked out on mass the company is more likely to benefit than the customer. If you are the type of person who wants peace of mind all the time then stick with it. Personally I have owned a number of sports/rare/vintage cars and have never bothered carrying road side assistance. You just need to be willing to pay for a tow truck to your repairer of choice. Happens to me about once every 4 years, as such I am better to pay out of pocket.

I had it. Twice. Never renewed either car.
If I thought I needed roadside assistance coverage I'd get AAA. At least with AAA the coverage follows the driver in any car he is driving. BMW covers the one car. Not worth the price, at least IMO.

I never renewed on my last two bimmers. They tell you that remote unlocking (lockout) is part of assist, but if you call BMW assist and tell them you are locked out and think you are an assists customer they still unlock your doors.

I just missed the cut off for that software wise on my last bimmer. It was a 2011 x5 50i. If my memory serves me anyways. I'm pretty sure I have roadside in my car insurance anyways.

4 year Warranty is about to expire on my 135i and I've never used BMW assist. My insurance and AAA cover towing anyway.

Roadside assistance is nice but having to wait to have your car unlocked in the unlikely even of a lockout would suck compared to having it unlocked remotely
