Incoming! First Royal Oak!

...unfortunately, not a Royal Oak for myself! When I first met my gf (back in 2007/8), I noticed she only had a Swatch, and wanted to get her a more 'proper' watch, so to speak. No better way than to start it off with a Seiko...

Two years ago, for her birthday, I bought her something which made her really happy!

But earlier this week, I think this one put a really, really, really big smile on her face

Now, I'd been looking for a Lady Royal Oak for the longest time ever, and finally found one from a AD in the US. Unfortunately, the watch had some imperfections and I requested it be sent back to AP for some rectification. After a two month wait, I finally heard that AP didn't have the necessary parts, and the AD was not able to provide me with an estimate timeline when I would be able to finally purchase the watch.

This one is a quartz, and an interim one, but I can tell she's happy nevertheless. Now, it is time for me to start saving up for a 15300...

The watch that was listed did not come with papers, but I believe the watch is from between 1978 - early 80s.

I brought the gf to the local AP boutique to get her watch sized, and she had a grin on her face the whole time! Fits good, although I think it would be even better if AP had a half-link for this size (I checked, they don't).

I'm very happy to have found this older Lady Royal Oak. With the trend these days to for women to wear over-sized (or boys' sized watches 33mm and larger), it was incredibly difficult to find something that would fit her well. This one hit the mark, imo.

Looks great!

But as others have said, I can't understand how AP didn't have parts - or were unable to make them on demand?

I wasn't offered much in terms of an explanation from the AD. There was also a delay in the line (I'm from Southeast Asia, calling an AD In the US) and the person over the phone who I'd been dealing with for 2 months basically said they sent it in to AP, who did not have certain parts available and had no estimate on when these parts would be available. Because of that, the AD wasn't able to provide me with a deadline of when the watch could get back to them, so that I could purchase it off them.

If I have to be honest, it was a pretty lousy experience, especially since it had taken me months to locate an automatic Lady Royal Oak, and they'd just left me hanging. No time for sour faces though! Which is why I went ahead to get this instead

For the curious, this one is from 1994 and comes (I believe) as an almost complete set:
