I agree with all your comments about the EU and its beautiful sceneries, France, Switzerland, Italy etc...

But at the end of the day, I really miss the culture, amenities and customer service of Asian cities, especially my hometown Seoul. It provides the best of all cultures (Far Eastern, Italian, Turkish, Jewish IMO) and what I value the most are family values. Just my opinion

Back to the subject of Gold Rolexes, you will never feel out of place wearing one of these on the hip streets of Seoul.
And on a side note, you can't beat the services of RSC-Seoul where the customers are treated like kings!

I find it a fallacy the thought that appears to be sponsored by some in this thread that, as far as I understand, is this: the classy thing to do is basically hide your wealth! Or in other words: You may have the resources to comfortably have luxury items, whatever they are, in whatever color or metal they are but choose not too, because it is "trashy"!

Give me a break, folks.

In my opinion, trashy is to have the means, and not enjoy the fruits of your labor while healthy and young.

Yes, I think between France, Italy and Ch., one is covered. France for fashion, food, culture, wine, art, jewelry, mountains and beaches. Italy for cars, art, fashion, wine, food, fashion, and beaches, and Switzerland for watches, skiing, and banking :)

I've been to China, Japan, and other parts of SE Asia, but never Korea-- looking forward to going sometime next year :)

I got it for me - not someone else.

I think it's a good idea to take care as far as safety goes and not be flashing it around, but I wear mine to work (tech co.) every day.

the nightlife won't disappoint either
Some of these Asian cities you really need to know what you're looking for, I guess its the same for all places ;)

If you visit Seoul, recommend staying at the Shilla (Samsung Group operated)
Given the taste you have from what we discussed on NYC, you will love their Japanese restaurant ("Ariake").

I am writing this down so I remember :) Thank you.

I love Korean food so much, my old housekeeper was Korean and I would always have her make different banchan for me as well as make me stone pot bibimbap. Oh, and I LOVE kimchi.

I also forgot, the Shilla has nice boutiques through the hotel, but there is a Duty Free Center next door as well which carries Rolex. The corner is small (and it is considered a AD) but the prices are very attractive compared to retail ADs.

Oh wow, nice to hear this. Too bad 32nd St is just whatever
It's decent but nothing special. You really need to go to LA for the best Korean food outside of Korea.

Normally, we have my mom's maid send us banchan every month

Wow. This thread sure has digressed.

At the end of the day, it's buy/wear what you're comfortable with.

I went to college in LA- definitely agree that the Korean food there is far superior to anything in Ktown in NYC.

LOL.

I dont want to generalize, but I lived in Paris for six months... you couldnt walk for ten minutes without having someone attempting to mug you or someone worrying that you will mug them!! You think you'll enjoy wearing your gold rolex there?!

I have no issues when wearing diamonds, fur, or my J12 whilst in Paris :)

I completely understand what you're saying. I think there is another variable to this equation though. I don't think one pays attention to what people do, say, or wear, nearly as much as one usually thinks. Therefore, I think, if you like the look of YG, RG, TT, or whatever you should wear it without fearing people think you're seeking attention. Of course there are people like that, maybe a small percentage or maybe a high percentages but, I don't think most people care or notice, making it a bit of a moot point in my view.

I don't have anything but SS but I will, and I don't want to give off a bad 1st impression but, I refuse to not wear a grail for the fear that everybody notices my watch and thinks negatively about me when in reality, in my view, nobody's paying that much attention to what I'm wearing.

Everyone is entitled to wear whatever they want but there is a thing called decorum. Wearing a massive chunk of gold is sending out a very simple message - LOOK AT ME, PLEASE PLEASE LOOK AT ME.

I have a 14ct JLC that is probably worth more than the gold Rolex but the difference is that no one looks at it and that is how I like it. I have been wearing my Explorer 24/7 for 6 weeks and not one of my best friends as noticed it. That is how it should be. I buy into horology rather than jewellery.

I would rather someone take an interest in me for my personality than for some gaudy lump of metal hanging about my personage.

Having said all that, if wearing a chunk of gold makes you feel good, then do so.

Regards

Mick

I wear my president in rotation with my GMT IIc. Rarely do people notice my watches but when they do they show a great appreciation for Rolex and especially the president. IMHO The show off quality of a yellow gold watch or white gold one for that matter is in the attitude of the wearer not in the watch.

I wear a yellow gold GMT-II as my day to day watch, it's absolutely fine ... with a caveat.

If you are wearing it to an office you should gauge the temperature a bit before you use it there, some places it could cause a bit of hate from your colleagues - and that probably isn't worth it, though they will get over it within a week or two in some places it really will change their perception of you. This may just be a UK thing, but I can definitely imagine it being true in the US too.

I am a small business owner and I wear mine every day - bank meetings, going to the post office, even going to the warehouse to do a stock check. To be honest the only thing I ever get comments about are my car, no-one seems to notice my watch - particularly since I moved out of London.

The only time I think it is ALWAYS noticed are the places where a salesman is trying to get a feel for you - car showrooms, etc. Even when I signed up for a gym membership the guy commented on it haha.
