Hello new to Rolex Forum

Hi All,

This is my first post! I'm looking to buy my 1st Rolex and I think I know what I want. The New GMT II(116710). I wasn't the biggest fame of Rolex until I saw a pix of the watch (Wednesday of this week) and tried on the TT (Thursday of this week). I always thought that Rolexs were too small since I wear 44mm+ watches, ie. Panerai and Cartier Santos and IWC Big Ingenieur, but I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it look on and it looked bigger than an old 40mm BM I have!

I have been put on a waiting list at my local AD. My question is:

Is this a good watch for the 1st time Rolex buyer? and;

How long will I have to wait before they get a watch in? I understand that they are on back ordered and they could not give me an ETA.

Thanks

Welcome to TRF. Glad you found our friendly forum. Stick around and join the fun.

As for the GMT, it's a great watch (personally, I'm more partial to the 16710 (all black) but you can't go wrong with the 116710. It's especially good if you travel between time zones. Easiest thing in the world to reset and to keep track of local and home times.

Can't say how long till yours comes in. Right now they're selling like hotcakes. You might call around to other ADs to see if anyone has any in stock.

Good luck on the hunt.

Welcome....and enjoy your stay!

Your wait shouldn't be long and don't play loyal to any one AD. Search around, See who's got what and keep an open eye on what's out there. Don't know how many AD's are near you but I always rotate visiting my local AD's and I've seen 2 the past 3 weeks......granted, I'm sure they SOLD the very next day or two....but they were on display....not locked away in the vault for same keeping for their "high rollers".

Good luck!!!

Welcome,
This was my second Rolex, my first was a GMT pepsi. I love my 116710!!! I had a Doxa, omega seamaster, and started with a Seiko 6303-7040 (UFO). I think you'll like the 116710!!! It took a month for mine to come in. Look for the best package!!! I bought mine at Davidson & Licht in Walnut Creek Ca. (also one in San Jose) they polish the band and outer case once a year for the the life of the watch, or for the rest of your life!!! Not a bad deal. The other AD's charge $150.00 for the same service. In 10 years, that is $1500.00, of service for free!! Also every time I go in there they clean my watch!!! Find an AD that will do something like that for you and stay with that one. If you can't find one that goes the extra mile, then put your name on multiple waiting lists. I could have purchased mine sooner but I wanted the lifetime service! I don't plan on getting rid of this one. I gave my first Gmt away, sold the Doxa, and gave the Omega to my Dad Some one at Big-O tires in Walnut Creek stole my Seiko out of my Car during a tire replacement. My 116710 is the first watch I don't want to part with!!!
