Ceramic - what's so special?

So I am contemplating a new AP and am taking a liking to the full ceramic 44 chrono.

Is there a place where I may find more information on what makes ceramic so special (beyond scratch resistance)?

What I really like is when the light hits the ceramic case, it looks spectacular.

Also, when will the ceramic chrono be available for purchase?

Sounds like you have nailed it already?

Its scratch reisitance is the practical aspect, while its visual apeal is the other.

If you like the way it looks, there you have it:)

By some accounts ceramic is said to be brittle, although I have no personal experience, I have seen enough images to believe it?

The black is available. I'd wait for the anthracite though.

drawn to the watch also.....The only negative besides price is if you do scratch the watch theres nothing you can do except replace. As much as they say scratch resistance it will happen eventually with normal wear as I learned with my bezel. I am not hard on my watches also. Just some insight bezel alone 1900 who knows how much to replace the case.

Somebody mentioned between 3 and 4 for the ceramic diver mid-case ... I agree with you, steel is more worry free ... easily refinished and cheaper to eventually replace if something goes really wrong.

I was just commenting on another thread ... I owned the FC 44 and now own the SS 44. Can't beat the knife like hard industrial lines of AP stainless.

The finishing on SS and RG is second to none. So I agree as well.

That's my dilemma, is the ceramic really 'worth it' or just go for RG?

Go GOLD....no one...absolutely no one does RG like AP and the 44mm RG is Uh-Mazing...although I may be a little bias given I am a proud owner of one...

If gold is an option ... but I much prefer the dial on the new anthracite or the panda on the SS or even the all black FC dial. I am not sure how I feel about the black with white sub-dials. It works well with the gold case though but it feels (to me of course) a little flat.

Have you considered a Schumi?

Not boutique only, but only a few will head to US this year...pretty much all to the two boutiques

My AP AD (large one) said no way he's getting one this year (and that was straight from AP at SIHH).

Good ... I want to try to hold on to my SS a little longer I live 15 minutes away from one of the two boutiques but I cannot stomach retail + tax.
