I don't. Last time I thought about possibly needing a winder was in the "Being buried with your Rolex" thread.

Some members love them, some don't. You'll see what I mean...

I had an Orbita. Great winder. Sold it. Was more bother than it was worth. Half the people here will like them the other half won't.

I have about 3 wolf winders. I hate using a winder and need to sell them. Don't waste your money

I have personal experience with the Orbita Rotorwind series. They are well made and virtually silent. That being said I don't use it all the time. I only put my watch on it when I'm not wearing it for a full day. In those instances I put the watch on the winder and let it run until I go to bed then turn it off.

If I'm not going to wear a watch for a while I don't bother with the winders I've got. I have six slots split between two winders. If I plan on wearing a watch within a week then it goes on a winder. My thoughts are that if a watch can be sold by a company as new after it's sat for a couple of years then what good is it doing the watch to keep it running other than the convenience of not having to set it when you want to wear it. In other words running a watch makes it wear where as letting it sit idle keeps it in the condition it is currently in. I had a jeweler say that watches need to be kept running similar to starting a car to keep the oil circulating. I say, bunk to that. Nothing in a watch to cause a problem when it isn't run.

I had heard that using a watch winder will wear out the rotor faster especially if it rotates in the same direction. I'm fairly new to higher end watches so I'm grateful for everybody's input. Thanks so much.

imho, good for complicated watches that require more than just a simple date and time to set.
ie perpetual calendar type.

I use a buben and zorweg vantage carbon to keep my GMT and 392 wound up. Any watch with a date, whether that be perpetual or non-perpetual, its handy to have a winder as you get home, put it on the winder, next morning, you just pick and wear and the time is correct as is the date. I also find that with my winder settings, the watch is more accurate also, as opposed to leaving it on a desk.

Do you need one? Definately not, its not a necessity, its just a convenience thing, so if you can spare the cash, get one! make sure you get a decent quality one where you can change the settings etc.

For someone like myself who only wears two or three watches in daily rotation, they make a lot of sense as it would annoy me to have to rewind and reset a watch every day before I put it on.
With the winder they are always wound and on time. I find they keep more accurate time with less variation with the winder.
Mine get approx 8 hrs of winding and 16 hrs resting each 24 hr period.
Works for me.

ok back on topic, I have a 3 watch winder, I keep my 2 seikos there and a third out of my current rotation (I rarely wear the seikos). I try to wear my watches at least once every 2 days, if not then I wind them. It's a 50/50 thing...
