SubC Lugs
The thinner lugs on a heavier and thicker new SDc is to me an admission that Rolex got it wrong with the updated Sub and that the lugs should have been not as "Maxi" as they are.
Like it or not most people would like smaller lugs. This got me thinking (always dangerous) and I am starting to think that Rolex could perhaps next year introduce the Sub with thinner lugs as per the SDc. If this happened the current Maxi Case SubC would become a short run and will then probably be seen as a classic! So rather than selling it could become sought after! It may not be as daft as it sounds but I doubt it very much and just a thought. |

I disagree. I happen to like the chunkier lugs and think they will help to distinguish the SubC from the new SDC. Also, I don't think Rolex views the SubC lugs as a mistake. If you look at a 5513, its lugs are on the chunky side as well. So, I think the SubC lugs are more of an homage to the past rather than a radical design change. It might be the thicker case mandated slightly thinner lugs for fit?? I have no real idea, but at this point nothing Rolex does would surprise me.

fatter lugs for the submariner to give it a bigger look + harken back to the original submariners.
on the new SD, it's very thick + it always had thinner lugs, so, it makes sense that the lugs are different. my two cents....who knows what goes on in the brain of mr. or mrs. rolex. personally, i really like the lugs on modern submariners and GMTs. |

It will not happen. Rolex brings what they want and it's up to us to vote with our wallet. I love my Subs. The lugs doesnt bother me at all. In fact I like the maxi case. But, on the opposite side, same happened with the new insert on the SD. They decided to bring the same one they have on the DSSD and if in the end I cant live with that, I will buy something else.

Prefer the larger lugs.
I think the thinner lugs on the SDc is to accentuate the larger face of the watch, whereas it is kind of overwhelmed on the SubC. That said, i prefer the SubC to SDc by a longshot. |

I really don't like the bigger lugs so have sold my ceramic subs and bought a PT Daytona Rolex have this one spot on and my tool watches are the 16600 and the 16610 and will be fitting a new 4000 sd in the collection with the smaller lugs to my daily watches ,The PT is not for work / daily wear

Doubt it. The Exp 2 has this style case. I think it goes in line with the Deepsea's case as well to separate it more visually from the Submariner.
Also the SD4C is a tad heavier, these thinner lugs and crown guards also aid in keeping the weight down. Or else it'd just be like another Deepsea, which everyone complains is so heavy. Every single diver iteration offers something different to the buyer. So I completely disagree with the op regarding some kind of admission. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A non-issue. Wishful thinking by the OP
THe current Sub, and Professional line as a whole, will be around for several years to come

The difference in lug width is nominal at best. 99.99% of people would never tell the difference unless you are doing close comparisons.

I like the Sub-c lugs. It's quite a copied look now. I disagree that most people don't like them. They are selling really well.

The DSSD lugs are smaller than the Subc as well, so I have to think the proportions are for a reason.. As for Rolex and their direction, who knows..?

My AD says the fat lugs subs are selling well, but he also has many requests for the previous model.

I did not like the thicker lugs but liked the C bezel. So I had the lugs thinned and the crystal changed.

I like the lug-case-bracelet proportions better on the YM II and the new SD4 better than the chunky look of the SubC and GMTC..
I would definitely pick up a new SD4 before getting a Sub C, which I have shied away from just because of those proportions..

Either way I don't understand all the complaints about the 'Maxi' case there are plenty of 16610's out there. |
