Icon10 DeepSea SeaDweller - My Impressions

One of the watches that always fascinated me is the DeepSea SeaDweller. Despite the size, I always appreciated the engineering and details that are in the Rolex DeepSea.

Also appealing is that the DeepSea has functions and details found on no other Rolex model. Like my other favorite Rolex, the revised 42mm Explorer II, the DeepSea is only available in 904L stainless steel. The DeepSea aspects that speak to me (aka -are just cool) are the crystal, bracelet clasp, and the titanium ring lock caseback. These details are what drew me to the watch and are the same features that are found on no other watch, including ones in the Rolex line.

There is more to the review at http://www.minus4plus6.com/deepsea.htm

All errors and omissions are mine, so feel free to point them out.

-Sheldon

You say the 16600 is top heavy but no mention of the dssd?

Maybe I need to make that clearer in the review. I found that the DeepSea, being more proportional (eg. wider being proportional to its height) is not anywhere as top heavy as the 16600 SeaDweller.

Cool thanks... I was going by feel when I tried it on and did not have a scale to weight it.

There is no way the Deepsea is proportional to the bracelet. Maybe the case height versus width but the bracelet looks way too small IMO. I have owned both and the 16600 is not top heavy at all.

Yes, my thoughts too. I think for a vast majority of people this comment or observation is a headscratcher.

Great review thanks.

All the recent threads on the new SDC just make me want the Deepsea even more.

The Deepsea's bracelet "looks" thin and like it could be wider....but I found that once on wrist the bracelet is a marvel and makes the DSSD relatively comfy to wear. It is however a top heavy watch and no bracelet can remedy that, not even my rubber b.

Great review, thanks for posting and sharing with us Sheldon.

DSSD I love it. Size the bracelet correctly, removed the divers extension (if you'll never use it ) and it wears beautifully. A marvel or engineering.

Tried one on. Didn't like it. Sat too high, was fairly heavy, the bezel was too busy, and I could not get past the writing. I respect it as an engineering marvel, though.

That's funny because most of your comments about watch sizes are head scratchers .

I share the feelings about DSSD - it's great watch. The new SDc while nice does not have as big appeal to me. Maybe it's the domed crystal on DSSD that's unique.

You may like the SDc better I would think. Both watches are great and in my opinion personal preference.

Look at Rashid - he is going to end up owning both ;-). And he seems to be very fond of his DSSD.
