I only have the SubC and love it. I have toyed with the idea of getting the polar Exp2. A friend of mine has the SubC too and bought the polar Exp2 recently. he loves the Exp2 and comments about how much more comfortable it is to wear than the SubC. He says the Exp2 disappears on his wrist.

If you truly plan on passing this to your son in 20/30 years, then I'd go for the Sub.
If you will only have one Rolex, then I'd go for the Sub.
I have older versions of both (40mm Polar and a 5512), and they both have a very solid spot in my rotation. Granted the 5512 is only recently acquired, but I don't see that changing. The 5512 "calls" to me, where as the functionality of the ExpII is a necessity when traveling (or forgetting what day it is...thankfully I have an iPhone!).
My final vote is for the SubC.

Have you tried them on side-by-side? That's the only way to get your heart pumping in the right direction.

I have both. To me they are the ultimate two Rolex sport watches to have. The Submariner in black with no date and the larger Explorer II in white with a date. Perfect combination. I threw in the Explorer for good measure if I need something a little bit dressier.

OP,

You're faced with two good outcomes. You really can't go wrong with either.

Wow....That is the perfect combination. I like the Explorer thrown in for dressier occasions. So what is next up on your wish list Evan?

Looks awesome Woody....perfect for any and every activity. Exactly what I'm looking for. How do you like the 42 mm size? To me it's perfect.

Seems like a common dilemma trying to decide between the Exp2 and the Sub! Fortunately for me - in Fort Smith, Arkansas - you rarely see any Rolex. I think I can wear any of them without being part of a trend.

Although the only one I've seen recently was a Sub (w/ date). I was sitting at Starbucks and I saw a guy get out of his car and noticed it from 50 feet away!

I really need to try them on side-by-side....However, I'm planning to buy mine slightly used from the forum, so I hate to waste my AD's time if I'm not planning to buy there.

Plus if I buy used, I might be able to swing both!

Great collection, Evan.

Side-by-side (in your picture) the Exp2 doesn't look much bigger than the Sub. Is that accurate? How does the thickness compare on the two?

One of the things I love about the polar is how legible and readable it is with the white background and oversized black hands. In your picture it's noticeably easier to read the time on the polar. Agreed?

Thanks Mike. I really like the 42mm size, she sits pretty flat against my wrist, compared to my 40mm Sea Dweller, which is slightly taller/fatter.

And, I'm sure I'm not alone, but as my 44 year old eyes age, I'm finding the EXP II 42 a little easier to read -- and this just happened in the last year!

As I said earlier -- you really can't make a bad decision. I love the clean lines of the Sub -- which is one reason I like my SD so much. Although, I'm appreciating the cyclops on my EXP II 42 -- sucks getting old!!

Good luck in your decision!
