Icon11 New to forum - many questions

Hi,
I am new to the forum and have many basic questions. Is there any sort of FAQ for people interested in buying their first rolex watch? The information on line is extensive and contradictory. I have been told by my local certified Rolex dealers to never buy online because buying online means I can't get my Rolex serviced, that pre-owned Rolex watches are a huge risk, everything online is counterfeit, etc. While reading through various forums, it seems clear that there are sellers that are more trustworthy than others. It also sounds like buying a pre-owned Rolex, if I can find the Rolex model that I am looking for, could save money and that I can still get a genuine Rolex. Is buying a Rolex at full-price retail (from a certified Rolex dealer) like buying a car at full sticker price? Just trying to sort through all the information and misinformation out there. Thanks!

Welcome to TRF, Julie. While there is no specific FAQ section on TRF, there are plenty of posts about almost every model of Rolex. If you want to save a little money, you can buy from one of the trusted sellers here. You can find information about the sellers in the Who's Who section. DavidSW and Justrolexes are two of the best. There are others here who are equally trustworthy. Just do your due diligence to find them.

The route you take to find your Rolex is highly personal. There is nothing wrong with paying full retail (if you can afford it) at an AD if you find the right watch. Likewise, there is nothing wrong with saving $$$$ buying used. Many variations between of course.

Unless you intend to flip watches regularly, what is a couple hundred (or thousand) mean 15-20 years from now when you look at the hard earned watch on your wrist.

YMMV, good luck and welcome!

Welcome. Hang around here and I am sure that you will find a warm welcome and a lot of really nice men and women with amazing knowledge on watches.

I have bought at both ADs and on here with trusted sellers. My old AD used to give decent discounts until they shut down. Discounts at ADs vary wherever you might be in the world.

Welcome to the forum, Julie.

Certain Rolex models (inc most ladies version) have a pretty average (not good) residual value.

Fine if you're keeping it forever but it may be worth bearing in mind that a newish pre-owned model may be obtainable at a considerable discount for the same reason.
