What would you pay?

I am sure you guys get sick of reading all of the "is this a good deal" threads...so I thought maybe I would switch it up.

What would you pay for an absolute flawless Submariner F serial (2004 I think), no boxes or papers, warranty'd with local jeweler for 1 year?

Nothing. While it's a nice looking watch, the Sub may be my least favorite Rolex. I take it back; the SD is my least favorite; the Sub is my second least favorite.

I can't see the case well enough, but there's a world of difference between a "flawless" watch that has had its chamfers polished off and one that's flawless and 100% correct/original. Take a look at the for sale forum and see what people are asking for watches of similar age.

I would look for information on how to spot a fake Rolex, memorize all these clues, and go to jewlery store with a loupe and inspect the watch VERY carefully.

Sage advice that I second.

Even an over polished F serial, watch only, isn't going for $4,000 - not at a dealer, and not on this forum.

What do you mean?

Of course an over polished, watch only, F serial isn't going for $4k. But an all original, unpolished in excellent shape could bring that kind of money

Not on my list of must have....so it would have to be in the 90s DJ range.

Since it's a dealer, I would think $4800 to $5000 is fair. I'm sure they are asking in the high $5k range

Private party, $4500 to $4800 would be fair.

I would look through the sale forum here and see what previous ones sold for and if there are any for sale now.

An over polished example would bring more than that amount... An original unpolished actually nice example would be a lot more.

$4,500 for a ten year old Sub Date? A close look at those lugs suggests the watch may not be flawless.

About 4.5k, although I saw a U-serial the other day with 2011 RSC papers for just under 4.2k.

It really doesn't matter what we'd pay...many here have access to Subs of that type and condition for $4K or less.

But I think you are already in love with getting one. So I'd twist your question around to ask, "Why would you settle for that one when better ones are right here?"

4k would be a very good price, 4.5k would be a fair price, 5k would be a dealer price.

I think he meant the opposite. A 16610 below 4k is very, very rare in the recent years, even one over polished. Even beat up.

I'd buy at $4k and not a dollar more.

At this point ceramics will be $6k in the next 12 mos.

Jack - please explain your comment concerning the lugs. I am interested in your analysis of how they may be flawed. Thanks.
