I remember that, when my 1501 Date was slow, I could shake it ... let's see ... in the plane of the watch major (in the plane of the crystal). That would move it several seconds forward. Terribly useful when it was running slow. When the movement became too slow, I knew it was time to go in for an overhaul, which eventually became much more expensive than the watch itself ($175 in 1974).
