Battery died

I noticed over the weekend my emergency is in need of a battery replacement.. so my question is

1 - do I ship it to breitling myself or bring it to a local AD and have them ship it ?

2 - any idea how much this will cost ? I have heard prices between $400 - $1200

3 - any issues or tips if I am shipping it myself ? like how much should I insure it for ?

4 - and if I do ship it in ? do they just change batteries or change gaskets and give it some kind of overhaul ?

1 - do I ship it to breitling myself or bring it to a local AD and have them ship it ? Totally up to you, just keep in mind sometimes AD's have a tendency to add additional charges to make a little money off of you.

2 - any idea how much this will cost ? I have heard prices between $400 - $1200 Tough to say without opening the watch. Breitling will give you an estimate and have you approve it before charging you anything.

3 - any issues or tips if I am shipping it myself ? like how much should I insure it for ? No issues, I would suggest calling Breitling to get specific directions on how to ship and give them a heads up your sending it. I would not put Breitling anywhere on the box, just BUSA or BCANADA. Again, they will direct you if you call them first.

4 - and if I do ship it in ? do they just change batteries or change gaskets and give it some kind of overhaul ? Anytime a battery change is done a full service is also done. This includes, checking all the contact points, regulating the watch, changing the emergency transponder, and changing all gaskets. It is a full service, many people think it's as simple as just a battery change, it is not. This is considered a life saving device and is treated as such.
Hope that helps.

The Emergency has separate batteries for both a transmitter and movement. If it's just a battery change, the local AD can do it and yes, they change the gasket and pressure test it as well.

From what I've read, the first battery change on the Emergency is free too, so you might want to call an AD. My AD did the Aerospace for $20, so I imagine the Emergency would be a bit more, but not $400+. I think those prices are for a full service.

Well, looks like I might have been wrong on what they charge for the Emergency...

It does say that first maintenance service is due 2 years after purchase and free of charge.

Baco, that is because the Emergency transponder has to be changed for service due to the fact it's a life saving device. I do not recommend having a non certified Breitling watchmaker changing the battery even on something as simple as a Colt Quartz. I see it happen all the time, more problems can happen by having someone without the proper knowledge work on the watch.
