minute hand not moving

I was given a Datejust model 16013 as a retirement gift from my employer and wore the whole following week with not a problem. I didn't wear it for the better part of the next week and when I went to put it on it had stopped running. I did a hand wind of roughly 30 - 40 winds of the crown and reset the time and date. a couple hours later I noticed it had lost around 10 minutes so I reset the time thinking maybe I set it wrong. I looked again about 45 minute later and it was behind by 12 minutes. This time I reset it and stared at it for the next 4 continuous 360 degree sweeps of the second hand and noticed that the minute hand had not moved from where I set it. I did this same reset 4 more times with the same result. To add one more strange quirk to this it seems if I set the time ahead of the actual time it runs and keeps that same advanced amount of time. (at least it has for the past 2 to 3 hours. Any ideas? I'm guessing as near as I can tell by the serial number this is a 1987 vintage watch.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me

Sounds like the cannon pinion is worn or loose it's what holds the minute hand. Time for service and tighten cannon as part of the service. Rikki

Thank you for the info. It is my understanding that it is supposed to have a one year warranty that should cover it. Of course they need the bill of sale which my employer has and not me. I,ll have to see what I can do.

just wearing isn't enough to keep it wound.
