From what I've seen so far, a lot of people seem to like the maxi dial on the sport watches. But I wonder what percentage of people actually do... Personally, I think that keeping the dial the same size while increasing the size of the markers and hands (and also making the bezel font larger particularly on the GMT-Master II C) makes the dial look smaller. I love the new GMT-Master II, but I think if I ever buy one, I'd replace the dial with one that has normal-sized markers.

What do you guys think?

It's no secret what I think of the maxi.

It's about the best thing Rolex has done in a long time. In some sense going back to it's "roots"

Yes like the maxi dial but much prefer the true maxi dials, and thats the vintage ones.

I have seen one in the flesh, it was an original Anniversary Sub with the different font O in Rolex. Not my cuppa tea

The maxi dials are nice for greater lume, but it really is getting crowded on the dials IMHO. Plus, I find the size somewhat 'Fisher-Price' and childish compared to the old size. Again, this is definitely JHMO.

This is one reason why the SD is still my favourite. Classic size, no branding.

Exactly my reasons too. I recently tried on a GMTII and while it's a beautiful watch, especially in pictures, it seemed like a crowded dial. I think the Fisher Price description fits very well. This is JHMO and is an issue of personal taste rather than a dig against the watch itself.

I love my SD because it just fits my wrist and my personality perfectly. I think an SD with a Maxi dial would ruin an iconic watch.

the SD dial is a whole 6.5mm smaller than that of the Sub? that's an awful lot, i don't think so!

I don't particularly love the Maxi--but I would love better lume. Why not keep the hands and indices the same size, and just start using luminous material that actually glows?

I like the current dial, so no maxi dial for me, although historic painted maxi dials are very cool. I agree with some of the comments already posted. I own two panerai, and love them both. Larger watches are great if the size comes with history and a reason to be larger, not just fashion. I see no reason to make the SD larger (thereby creating more space for a maxi). It has great history at 40mm. It is perfectly sized as is.

The maxi dial on my GMTIIc looks great but, when I switch back to the Sub - it looks much cleaner. A refreshing mixture of watches.

However, I love both, the GMTIIc looks much more full and robust as a watch.

I didn't know anything about regular dial vs maxi. But after reading here I know now why GMT IIC was screaming BUY ME BUY ME at the AD. IT IS A MAXI DIAL!!! And when I compared GMT to GMT II later on I knew I'm gonna go with GMT IIC. The dial looks much fuller and I like it. Have to find GMT IIC SS now!!! I need one!!!! Desperately

Put muself on a waiting list @ my AD after returning my GMT II.....no regrets for returning as suddenly I fell in love with GMT IIC!!!!!
