'40' minute mark difference

I currently own a 14060m non date two line submariner, with a D serial number dating my watch to 2005. My research shows they made this watch from '02 - '07 before the 4 line subs starting appearing until the 14060m model was discontinued in 2012.

I've seen many pictures where the 40 minute mark on the bezel is different, but no official listing anywhere that reflects small changes from year to year within the same two line 14060m model number.

The 4 in my watch has a pointy black triangle in the top of the 4, whereas some have a more blocky black area in the 4.

I have attached a few images showing this.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Upon closer inspection I guess a few of the ten minute marks are different.

The back of the 2 is shorter in my watch, and the 5 has a notch that extends below the horizontal line.

Interesting.

Not sure where you have been researching.

The 14060M was released about 1999 and remained pretty much unchanged except for some minor cosmetics until it was replaced last year by the ceramic model.

The 4 line did appear around 2007, but it's the same watch except for the cosmetics.

The bezel insert, which you are referring to, is not a year-to-year thing and Rolex was constantly changing the font. Also, you do not always know if the watches you are looking at have an original insert or not, they are all interchangeable.

Typically the "flat four", which is the one that does not come to a point inside the top of the 4, is an earlier style font and used for many years fading out around 2004/2005.

Never thought to check mine for a Flat 4, but now I have, I see there is one

Y5 serial. Earlyish 2003, I think.

Mine's a P-series (2000-2001) 14060M. I comes with the 'flat 4' and also the flat 'S' Submariner font, which I find pretty cool.

The so called flat four font have been used many times over the past 50 year time frame on most all the sports range of Rolex watches.
