Hi all. Do you think Rolex will ever change or redesign the fat lugs of the Sub - GMT, to the good looking thinner way it is in the SD 4000?

Your guess is as good as mine, who knows well only Rolex does, and my afraid my Rolex future crystal ball has a broken flux capacitor .

I think the current lugs are good looking, and obviously many others do to! Will they change probably, eventually everything does!

The return to the classic lines seen on the new Sea Dweller is a possible acknowledgement that maybe the thick lugs were too drastic a redesign. I for one still much prefer the older case shape, and the redesign is what has stalled my interest in the Sub and GMT of recent years. The ceramic bezels I can handle being a higher quality material and number grinding gold blasting process plus the machined clasp. With the prices Rolex command for new watches these are understandable upgrades. The changes in proportion just simply will not grow on me. I know I'm in the select finicky few.

My reasoning used to be very similar to yours. Then the BLNR started singing its tune. It was a gradual process. Now I have come to love the newer design as much as I still do the older.....and I'm lucky enough to have both.

The reason is that to do so will devalue the current subs and one thing Rolex does very well is maintain re-sale value of older models. This helps justify new prices and is often used as a justification of cost on this forum. Ultimately maintaining re-sale value helps them sell more watches.

I for one like the maxi case lugs! It gives the watch a bigger look without pushing up the case size, the SDC looks good but wears smaller then my 114060 and I prefer that little bit bigger look.

Each to their own and at least now with the SDC and SubC in Rolex's line up there's a watch for both opinions

They won't change the design simply because the maxi-cased watches are selling very well so the design is not poor but rich and profitable.

I've got the 114060 and the 116600 and I love both watches for their own character.
The 116600 sits a little higher on the wrist but it looks smaller on the wrist than the 114060.

If you want an older Rolex look, then get an older Rolex. There are millions of them available.
