OK, Which Rolex Would You Do...?

Would you buy a single "grand" Rolex like full size 18k Presidential or would you spend the same amount of cash on two other models like a Gold/SS Date Just and a GMT or Sub.

I know ideally you get all three but....

My thought process is I can do a Gold/SS Datejust first and eventually get a GMT or a Sub and then "one day" do the full size Presidential. But if I got the Presidential first I probably wouldn't ever buy any of the others. And it would be cheaper now than when I can finally "afford" it.

Any advantage of the GMT or Sub over the Presidential? I have heard the sport models keep better time. Is this true? And is the GMT more waterproof than a Presidential?

Well, you can work your way up (starting with an SS sport model, and ending up with a YG DD), or you can go the other way. Depends on how YOU want to do it.

Personally, I would start with the sport model. You will likely get more wear out of a Sub or GMT because they are more of an everyday watch. Having said that, I know people who wear their YG DD as an every day watch.

I have both the GMT and the YG DD (plus a couple of TT DJs). I tend to wear the GMT much more than the DD (or any other watch for that matter). I usually wear the DD with black tie and sometimes with jeans. Depends on my mood at the time.

Not much help, I know. But you gotta go with your own gut on this.

Get a SS, a SS/YG Or Platinum and then an all precious metal one of some sort. Bases covered.

Since I prefer SS, I have a ways to go and alot to collect before I move on to TT or Gold. I could sell all mine and get a white gold daytona, but then I would probably be too nuts over anything happening to it to really enjoy it. I'd rather wait until I can afford it enough to just add to my collection.

DateJusts and Day-Dates are very different styles from Subs and GMTs. You have to figure out which type YOU like best.

If you are able to buy the DD now you will have to save a much shorter time to get the others.
If you buy the SS sports watch now you will have a much longer time to save before getting the DD.
