Please guys help me, this watch has really high value for me :(

Unfortunately, it just rare for a someone who is into watches but their close family member doesn't know about it. If you really know that person and you don't think he/she would have spent that kind of money, then its mostly a fake. Most Rolex owners are a unique bunch, especially old time folks, no matter how low profile they are, they would have been extremely proud of it and most likely a well known family story behind it.

Perhaps its a good time to start saving for a real one and pass it to your son/grandson one day. Imagine what you would have felt if this is a real one. He will feel that! Nothing more romantic about father/son relationship than passing on a nice timepiece

Too bad it wasn't the case but not all stories have a happy ending, :) Good luck in your quest for a Rolex, hopefully you'll have one that your future grandchild can inherit and have it turn out to be a happy ending.
+1

And I also wonder... has there ever been an occasion where someone posted about a find that turned out to be a real Rolex and an excellent find? If so please someone link me to such thread Its really fun read :)

Not necessarily.

I know my father loves watches (especially Rolex), and I consider my self close to my father... and a watch fanatic. I spend many hours with him in his home office where he spend most of his free time and has most of his personal stuff. I do notice his watches and he does notice my watches as well.

Couple months ago I found out about a box that he had in one of his closets (I thought I knew about everything in his closets!). What I found in that box was a surprise to me. I always knew that my father had a black Daytona. He used to wear it many years ago but then stopped. I actually never noticed that he stopped wearing it. I know that he now mostly wears his Subs and Explorer... I completely forgot about the Daytona and never asked him about it.

However few months ago, I got interested in his ceramic sub and asked him if I can have a look at it... my father asked me to reach for that box in his closet... I never knew he was keeping some watches in a box i just thought he'd have them laying around somewhere (like i do ;/).

That moment, when I opened the box... I saw that black Daytona he used to wear... I had completely forgotten about it... I got flashbacks immediately and was sooo excited to see it in the box (back then i wasn't big fan of it. this forum has ruined me and made me love everything rolex ;/)

As I picked up the Daytona... I realized why it had disappeared from my father wrist. It was DEAD! fell on the marble floor and broke in such a bad way. I know that the ceramic sub had also fell on the marble floor once and I took it to the workshop myself to have it fixed... apparently it was a simple issue that was fixed in couple days. But the look at that Daytona... I just felt sad for the watch!!

If you think the condition of that Daytona is what shocked me you're wrong... I saw something even more shocking in that box! That Daytona... was one of three broken black Daytona!!! All from them were of different eras/years.

So for someone like me who is into watches and my father who is a close family member had a multiple daytonas which i never knew and actually broke them and stopped wearing them and I also never noticed!

Yeah but at least you know your father is into watches, just some you never knew exist because your dad had so damn many :p
Anyway, I know my dad too has something tucked away which i have never seen. But i don't think he will have 3 Daytona tho. BtW, so your dad just buy a new Daytona whenever one doesnt work, "oops watch broke, need a new one". Thats not a bad idea ;)

These do tend to be interesting threads but...

...fortunately not all the "I inherited it from Grandpa" stories end like this. Take me for example. My inheritance from my Grandfather is actually what got me into watches. I cherish his GMT Master more than anything else I own (would be the same if it was a Timex). When I was growing up, I remember always staring at his wrist and being very fascinated with this watch even though I had no idea what a Rolex was at the time.
