Which Daytona?

Hello folks

So I have a hankering to add a Daytona to my collection. It would be my first one. It would serve on rotation. I don't have any spare organs to hock off on eBay, so most drop-dead-cool older models are off the menu.

Suggestions anyone? I'm not wedded to the idea of vintage, but you guys seem to know best, so I thought I'd start here.

I'm very suggestable, so your vote will count!

Thanks.

Sub 20 US. Lower is better, but flexibility means I'm easily led.

Try to find a nice 6239. They have dropped a bit lately according to some knowledgeable members here and you might be able to squeeze one in for that amount. Why not try to find one from your birth year 1970?

Depending on what you want to spend, I don't think there's a better choice then a 16520…

Here's my Tritium "T" series…

Unless you want a vintage, I'm of the school that you should buy the newest, best condition Rolex (or Porsche) you can afford. I'm looking at precious metal Daytonas, but they are very slightly over your budget.

So, if you follow my way of thinking (not all do), buy a brand new SS Daytona with whatever dial you like from an AD or a TRF seller. Or if you are interested in YG or WG, talk to one of the TRF trusted sellers and see if what you could get for your budget.

Just another perspective.

Here's a bit of a curveball... a TT 16523. The steel & gold combo is often rightfully maligned here but for some reason it works well on the automatic Daytonas.

All views welcome and I get your thinking. A warranty can be comforting, as can clear lines of ownership. I think WG is an organ-donation too far for me and steeling myself for patience may be best.

I think I said the same thing in another thread, but I have yet to come across a 6239 that's priced under 20K US & I'm keeping an eye out for one myself.

Nice curve ball. Definite outsider, but I'm as good as my word and will take a look at some pics. Thanks.

Yeah, I had a quick look on Chrono24, which is always handy for a price survey, and thought that it would be out of reach for me.

6262 is the most undervalued Daytona considering its scarcity. It was only produced for one year and in small numbers. They can be found at 6239 prices if you look hard.

Here's one I wear, 116520 on a strap.
The 16520 is a nice option too, used to own a white one.

Good luck! No bad options.

There's 2 daytonas that I have been looking at one being the all gold zenith movement upside down six Daytona from 1990 . And the other is a stainless white face zenith movement Daytona. I believe these will be the best investment piece daytonas after the very expensive Paul Newman daytonas . I have been shopping around and have found the gold one for 16,000 and the stainless for 8,300. Or you could get a new Daytona preowned for around 8500 to 9500

I doubt you'd be able to find any "vintage" Daytona within your budget, not one you'd really want anyway. I'd recommend a newer model white gold or yellow gold version on a strap. Or an all stainless steel Zenith. I think this white gold version on strap is quite nice, and it's got a vintage feel with the Panda dial. And it's within your budget (used). Good luck!

It depends on your personal tastes and your budget. A more recent SS version might be for you if you are interested in saving half your budget. Just my opinion.

which do you like?

i am all about the vintage - i think the look is so different from the contemporary - but you have to decide which you prefer.
