Lost in the 50's
I was on assignment this morning for the magazine insert for our local newspaper to get shots of Mike and his new 1959 Shell service station. Mike, in his 60's, says he is hopelessly lost in the 50's. He has collected these things for forty years and finally built a building for them. His "service station" is nothing short of amazing in authenticity. In the back is a full soda fountain. When asked what he is going to do with all of this he said, "enjoy it"! He is quite an interesting guy as you can imagine. I thought you lads and lasses would enjoy a trip back in time. Cheers, Bill P.

Very cool! There is a ~50's station right around the corner from me that has been renovated and is just a bit of a historical stop-over and unfortunately there is not a Mike who runs it as it is not manned. I'll try to snap a pic of it and post it here. Great pics.

Glad you are enjoying seeing Mike's station. It is not open to the public. He opened up and showed me through to get photos for the article. I am not sure when the article will run, but I will post a link when it does. Mike, I am eager to see pics of the station near you in Richmond. Happy Easter, Bill P.

This building is located about 20 miles outside of State College, but the funny this about this building is it was built about 10 years ago and was never a gas/service station. It is an country store/Texaco memorabilia store.

Not quite as much character but also a throw back to another era:

Sometimes with all the new technology we have, you just want to throw your hands up in the air and wish for the simpler days!

That is so true. I wonder if we would even miss most of it after a while. I'm thinking I wouldn't. Well maybe TRF but not too much else.
