Vintage Explorer
What sort of accuracy can be expected of a 20+ year old Explorer orange hand. It has been recently serviced just because it was time to do it. I travel quite a bit and am frequently resetting it. I am not real into the accuracy but I was wondering of accuracy drops off with the age of a watch. I would not expect it to be -4+6 for sure.
Thanks

Good running, well serviced movement - yep.
I have a thrashed 1675 GMT that runs for 40 hours and is damn accurate

It should be regulated to perform within COSC

If it has been maintained well there is no reason why it wouldn't keep as good time as it did when it was newer. The 1655 came out in 1971 and COSC was instituted in 1973 so most were tested under the -4/+6 criteria. If yours doesn't keep good time perhaps it needs some proper fresh parts and oil, or maybe it simply needs better regulation.... the 15xx movements respond very well by positional adjustment when not being worn.

This is my explorer. Taken on a moving train so sorry about the quality of the picture. Serviced by Bob Ridleyin the last year. As he always does he did a great job. Thanks for your great insight.

That's a very nice Exp II! Mine runs a bit fast at 12 sec a day, so it's probably due for a service sooner than later.

If it has been recently serviced you can regulate it and have excellent accuracy. My 1675 and 1625 both are about +1s/day.
You probably need one or two iterations with the regulation, it depends on how active you are and what you do. |

Sorry about my first picture. I was on the New Mexico Rail Runner train heading to ABQ for a flight to Dallas and the road bed is not the best. I think that this picture is a bit better.
Thanks again for all the input.

Thanks PEB. I think I prefer this watch on straps more than the bracelet.
Looking good! Always nice to see other 1655's. |

What do you have ?? The orange hand 1655 was discontinued about 30 years ago..
Sir: I believe it is a 1655 but I also believe it has a service dial as well as hands. My wife got it for me used and I have had Bob Ridley work on it. I think that my wife wears it as much or more than I do. The first 1655 I had was in the late 60's while in College, but it got stolen and I replaced it with a Red Sub. My wife got this one for me with no box or papers. We sent it to Rolex Dallas many years ago to confirm it was the real deal. I always loved the old advertisements for the early Explorers. I very much appreciate your insight.
