Thought on 1016

Dear folks - I've been looking for a solid and affordable 1016 for quite a while now and this one may be in reach. The case looks rather polished, not sure about the font / relume... but maybe I have become to paranoid. You will maybe see and know more – any input is much appreciated. No images of caseback/movement, alas.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hm, the font I suspected seems similar to this
http://www.woodrich-trading.com/shop...ABC%201581.jpg

And the lumen of hands/dial seems to fit quite nicely and so on.
(But then again it could be a Yuki for all I know)

I've been looking at this for quite some time now. The 3 seems to be rounder than usual (but I've seen some dials with this) and the serifs of the E and L look strange (if this isn't just the photo), seem to go up AND down instead of just inwards. Although they seem a bit better on the angled photo. Hope all this guessing doesn't make me look TOO stupid, and actually it's great fun comparing dials and all this - I can see why you folks love this so much ;-D , but before closing the deal tomorrow I'd love to be sure(er) of what to do and have some more experienced counsel, if possible.

Tricky if you're not a pro but just a regular Junkie looking for a good catch... ;-) - maybe someone around here can help me make the right decision?

Thanks for taking some time with this...!

Good day, there have been some excellent fakes, a recent read somewhere mentioned explorers as one of the faked ones... In a few hours some members with great eye and knowledge time will chime in and help you out...

The minute Hand also seems to be too short compared to other explorers from 1979. Quite frankly, I feel like this might be a bad idea.

After some more time spent looking at references at unhealthy zoom levels, I decided against it. And the hunt goes on... ;-).

WaQstar, many thanks for your kind words...!

Wise to leave it alone, the lume looks like a relume on a refinished dial to me

The hand could be genuine, however a 5513 hands instead, which fits perfectly and have a shorter minute hand.

Folks - many thanks for your input regarding this watch. Despite the very low price I decided to let this one go, as the typography on the dial, lume, 5513 hands and rather polished-down case would make this a bad buy even at below 4K.
Gets harder & harder to find an affordable sexy Explorer 1 or 2, but as always with watches part of the fun is looking for something nice.

Many thanks to all who chimed in.

agree. fake dial. distance between numbers and minute markers is too long. just a quick clue to know it is not a legit dial
