Serial number seems to line up with the mark iv dial with open 6's. Is the bezel insert original?

I'm certainly no expert, just a fan and owner. Looks like a Nice model with the original band, but it has some wear.

Just my opinion, if you are going to spend 12k, why not spend a little more and get a much better condition model... It took me some time to find this watch, and then convince the owner to sell it me, but I am very glad I did...

That is a great example Tudor66. I guess patience is the key.

As i look at non serviced, original pieces in the future, how much should i budget (range-wise) for a complete overhaul from someone like Bob ridley or abc in 2014 for a 1680?

Abc does a great job. 500 plus depending on what u want to do with it. The only thing that bothers me with this watch is the band. Sure u can get it fixed by MY but it will be away for months. Not a deal breaker but still...

I was looking at the same piece earlier today, the imperfection at the bottom of the dial (fully disclosed by the seller) kill it for me though. In vintage... dial and hands are everything.

I'm no expert, but it looks good to me - I could live with the slight oil residue on dial, which is otherwise excellent. Great case, awesome insert. Price OK/going rate. IMHO. Bracelet would fix up like new. I like it.

Yeah I also like the residue is only slight and probably wont be able to see it in most conditions unless you shine a bright light on it... I wanted to ask though about the the crown has it been changed?? Should that have 3 dots on it being triplock crown? Lovely insert aswell :-)

The Twinlock crown is correct for 1970. I believe that the first 3 dot crowns showed up in late 1972.

The crystal needs a nice buffing. The insert looks original to me. There is little or no corrosion on the hands.

The prices of legitimate Red Subs is rising fast; if you can deal with the things that need a little "tweeking" I think you should consider this watch.

Ahh ok then thats just me then, thanks for clarifying that thought I have seen some triplock on 69/70/71 models??

case has been produced at the beginning of 1971.
insert is obviously correct.
about the crown : 700 ( twinlock ) is the default one for a 1680 in the 2.6 case range.
first series triplock ( 702 ) arrives around the end of the year .
but around 2.8 ( end of 1971 ) you can find both as pristine equipment.
at 3.0 ( middle 1972 circa ) I expect to see 702 only.

Note that I wear my RedSub on a 93150 bracelet that is thicker, more comfortable and certainly more common. The original 9315 bracelet is hidden away. I am sure the next owner will appreciate the pristine condition of the original band.
