I have a 4 yo and I've already taught him how to tell the time, which one is the second hand, hour, etc. I also gave him an old Seiko of mine, which he "wears" quite frequently at home! The Seiko doesn't have a sweeping second hand and he tells me that it's broken!

Don't be too surprised, if you see an incoming thread from a 4 yo soon!
