Am I going senile ?

Chaps

I am approaching my 66th year so a certain level of muddlement is reasonable but my memory is normally fairly sharp, but this is doing my head in.

The first time I came across Rolex was back in 1979-82 when I worked with a chap who was an enthusiastic aqua lung diver. This chap drove down to the coast most weekends and diving was his main topic of conversation, sometimes to the point of boredom.

He often showed me his Rolex which back then was rather large and chunky compared to most watches and I can remember (at least I think I remember) it having a red and black bezzle and I can remember him explaining that the bezel acted as a timer so as he did not run out of oxygen.

Now this is the pussling bit, did any diving watch from back then have a coloured bezel ?

I am certain he said it was a Rolex and I cannot really see him buying a GMT because he lived and breathed for diving.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Regards

Mick

I'm no expert and new to rolex but the GMT has a 100m rating. So it should be good. As far as using that bezel to time dives I don't know unless you just use the 24 hour bezel as minutes???

Again new to rolex and I don't dive.

Sub with black bezel insert and red triangle, perhaps. See this photo of 6536.

If not this than it must have been a GMT, quite suitable for scuba diving imho. Memories fade away

Old subs had a red triangle on a black bezel holding the pearl.

It probably wasn't a 6536
