Because of the superb finishing on the AP, scratches seem to stand out more vs. my Rolex models. My AP is actually in pristine shape because it doesn't see as much wrist time (shared with 2 others) and I'm super careful with it.

I have four watches and tend to wear my EXI more as daily. Only bc I don't want to add any excess scratches to my 15300

I just tried the 15400 on again and there's no doubt that it's the next timepiece. A beautiful work of art. The question will be what to have as a daily driver when I do upgrade to the 15400, and a Sub sounds like a good choice. Really love what AP are doing, as someone who was obvious for all too long.

I was told that Nautilus models especially on SS bracelets are scratch magnets, I have one for 5 months now, it got probably 40-50% wrist time in that period, and even if I'm very careful, it got only 1 micro scratch practically not visible on a link near the clasp, so I really think it depends how you are with your watches, of course there will be scratches, but if you manage them to be only micro scratches and not serious ones or bumps it's ok...

Lapince, I think you're right. I've been pretty safe with my GMTc, and I've noticed some signs of wear on the PCLs but that is expected. Because I'm so obsessed with watches, I'm definitely careful with how I move my arms when I'm wearing my GMTc. I imagine I'd be the same with the RO, maybe even more so. Monday through Friday, I'm going to be at the office. Saturday through Sunday, I'll just have to be careful with it (or get a Sub for the weekend, or keep the GMTc as the beater).

15400 As Daily & Only Driver

Funny. I had the same combo. ![]() OP: I would not do 15400 as the only watch. You need a Rolex for sure IMO.

I yearn for a 15400. For now I get by with a few Rolex. My GMTIIc is my daily wearer and I don't worry about scratches etc. My other watches are babied and only worn when I know I'll be careful with them. If I'm lucky enought to get the AP someday, I will definitely baby it, but I'll always have one good beater watch.

Warning: Once you go to AP, you are unlikely to buy more Rolexes... or have reduced wear time with them.

I have a 15300 that I use almost all the time. My view is that its a sportswatch and thus meant to be actively worn. And the RO is so great I want to use it all the time! On the other hand the RO is such a scratch magnet that if scratches worry you too much the RO doesn't seem like the right choice.
My other watches are a JLC MUT Moon and a Omega Dynamic chrono from the 90s. The JLC deserves more wrist time as the RO usually ends up taking it's place. Mostly I wear the JLC when I want a more subtle watch for certain business meeting or the finest parties. The Omega I only use when there's danger of theft or high risk for damage (last time being Oktoberfest in Munich). For occational manual labor that has high risk for watch damage its best to simply take it of (or get a G-SHOCK). Swimming with the RO is ok. Sports that have impact etc. I don't do with it. |

Like JF my 15400 is new to me today picked it up from the AD. I don't plan to treat it differently to my other watches, i.e. one week on 4 weeks off in rotation. Scratches are part of life, it seems sufficiently robust like my PP if not quite at the same level as Rolex for battle toughness.

![]() ![]() ![]() This is my current trio. Wear the APs daily and pull the LV out for beach, travel and other rougher activities. Works well for me. I'd definitely recommend having a Rolex to go with your future 15400. Cheers. |

As previously said, in my book no watch can beat a Rolex Sportmodel IF you really need to use it 24/7 no matter what...
A Rolex Sub will look good even with scratches etc, the AP will not...

I have thought of trading my Daytona but know I would regret it. Next watch I'd like to own is a 15400 or maybe a 15202. Just need to save up and do it. |
