Accuracy after a full Service +12 seconds a day
I have a sub 16610 Caliber 3135 that I purchased used in 2008. I purchased it on this forum from a guy who had bought it new six months prior. When I got it it was running + 8 seconds and I sent it to the RSC and they set it to plus 2 seconds. Recently it started gaining 22 seconds per day.
I decided to have it fully serviced as it is around 7 to 8 years old. I used a guy that has serviced other pocket and wrist watches that I own. He had a parts account with Rolex up until 2010 and has been working on watches for over 20 years and has a very active storefront working on many vintage as well as Rolexes. I received the watch back from him and his receipt says it is + 8 seconds per day. He says that as watches age the mechanisms are less accurate and he considers that gain to be excellent. He claims he cannot make it more accurate. He says none of his personal Rolexes are that accurate. When I leave it on a winder it is around plus 6 to 8. Wearing it is around plus 12 or 13 seconds per day. This watch is worn in rotation and is not abused at all. Very well taken care of. So, did I perhaps make a mistake and send it to the wrong guy? Can't a watch of this age be set more accurately? Any recommendations as to where I can send it? Or am I just being silly? I am located in California. This was my first Rolex and thus is my first to be serviced and it appears that I may need to find someone else to service the rest of them as they come due. Thanks for the input ![]()

One word... Bogus! Get a new guy... There are a few here in TRF, or just use the RSC.

Call Rik Dietel at Time Care Inc. He can regulate it for you to where it is almost spot on accurate you won't notice it is fast or slow. He serviced my 17 year old Sub this past February and it is more accurate than the brand new Hulk I purchased this past April. He is a forum member here, has been a watchmaker for over 30 years and has Rolex parts account. He is located in Florida so you will have to send out but you will be impressed with his results. He will gladly discuss your watch over the phone and is just a great guy to talk with.

Yea, that watch guy is full of it. Maybe he can't get it more accurate, but someone who knows what they are doing can with ease. Move on from him.

Training and experience trumps the parts account in this case. He gave up that account, or it was lifted by Rolex, for some reason. Oftentimes it is because a watchmaker chooses to skip the continuing annual training required to maintain certification.
As for the accuracy - if you'd accept -4/+6 sec a day, I'd really not worry about the extra 6 seconds myself. So you adjust correct time once a week instead of every 2 weeks? Not a biggie for me - but if RSC regulated it before, maybe try them again...

Think about it. How can a movement that was COSC certified not be capable of better than +8? It just doesn't make any sense to me.
And if a watchmaker told me none of his personal Rolexes were better than that, I'd find another watchmaker.
