New Rolex Explorer 2 Paperwork

Hello All and a Happy New Year,

My first post so please be kind. I purchased an unworn, 2014 Explorer 2 from a reputable jeweller, via an online sale. It was delivered promptly, beautiful, all seals intact.

Prior to purchasing I enquired about the paperwork and was informed that the guarantee card would indeed not show their details, rather the original AD. That is the only question I asked for clarification.

However, the paperwork was also pre-filled with a random Purchaser name and also a date from about a week ago. I was a little disappointed, as I expected this to show my name and my actual purchase date.

The exact wording from their website:
"An “unworn” watch means that the watch has been recently purchased new and purchased by us without having been worn. Unworn watches have intact protective stickers and seals (where such wear seals are utilised by the manufacturer), the manufacturer's original warranty and the paperwork is present."

I understand that this is how they sell at a discount (approx 15%) … I would like to ask here from your experience should I be concerned? is this normal practice?

I was really unaware that another persons name would be on the guarantee card, maybe I am worrying about nothing.

It sounds like you're good to go. Just double check the serial on the warranty card and make sure it matches your watch. Congrats!

Common practice. Unless you are the original purchaser from the original AD, your name most likely won't be on the card. There are some out there that are blank but in all honesty, it doesn't matter. Rolex doesn't check IDs when taking a watch in for service !

yup, its normal; when dealing in the grey market. Not to worry too, the RSC would not check for your ID.

They would only check your credit card to make sure it isn't expired.

You're good to go. Nice watch by the way.

Common practice. The warranty follows the watch not the buyer. As long as you have the watch with the matching card and it's still within the 2 years from the date of purchase your watch us fully covered. Forget about that and enjoy your new watch!

Nothing to worry about, as already mentioned, the watch is covered by the warranty not the owner. Enjoy your new Rolex.

Sounds like you should have purchase from an AD instead to have your name on the warranty. There is a new ROLEX warranty card system that comes with a magnetic stripe card which AD's are required to swipe to activate the warranty once the ROLEX leaves the shop. Most AD would require the purchaser to fill up the warranty card with the purchaser name. Gone are those days when you can have an open warranty card. I believe this system will affect grey dealers in a way.
