Earthquake!

At 5:36 this morning I rode thru the 3rd earthquake of my lifetime while living in the Ohio Valley. Yes, the Ohio Valley. Oddly enough I live near one of the largest vault lines in the US, running from Cincinnati to Memphis..
Weird sensation but no damage, and my watches are OK.

Actually we felt it here in Toronto, but very slight. I guess since I live on the 33rd floor it may have been magnified a little, but I'm usually a little wobbley that time of the morning.....

Yeah, I was woken up in St. Louis as well. They downgraded it to a 5.2. Don't ask me how that happens.

Yes, it woke me out of bed early this morning. I live 16 miles northwest of Chicago. They even felt it in downtown Chicago. It was reported as a 5.4. My personal experience was that my bed was shaking (I was alone and sleeping thank you) and that combined with my pet parakeets chattering woke me up. Freaky, but not that uncommon in the midwest. I read in the Chicago papers that people in Indiana and Michigan felt it, albieit slightly.

I work in Clarksville, TN (north of Nashville) and my co-workers are saying they felt the earthquake. I live in Nashville and did not feel the quake and was awake during the time it happened.

I live in southern indiana not far from the epicenter. I was awoken out of bed and there was some minor damage to my fence and some things in the house. The way the house was shaking I thought for sure it would come down.

If that fault line ever truly blows in the Midwest it will probably be the most massive earthquake ever recorded. It is huge.

I went through two major earthquakes in California. They are spooky. I've been through typhoons, floods, fires, tornados, hurricanes, etc. Earthquakes are the worst as they are not predictable, you have aftershocks for months afterwords, and they are nerve racking.

The aftershocks just could be felt a little bit ago at 10:16am CDST. I felt my bed shake, towels move on the racks and venetian blings and swags swaying back and forth. It was just updated in the Chicago Tribune web site.

What EXACTLY were you doing at the actual time of the quake, Dan?

Glad nothing serious or untoward happened, my friend. Say Hi to Sandee from me.

Cheers - JJ

What do ya' think I was doin' at 5:30 AM?
It woke me up and I thought my wife was shivering because I had the windows open. Then heard the deck furniture bouncing around. Whenever you've been thru one you determine what's going on pretty fast. And these midwest quakes are nothin' compared to the west coast.
I'll pass along your hello to Sandee and please tell Zemina the same.

I think it was 3-4 years ago that I got a flat tire here in Richmond and pulled into a Goodyear store to have it replaced. They told me it would be a couple of hours before they could get to it so I walked across the street to some stores to kill the time. It was approx a few hundred yards away. I came back 2 hours later and everyone at the shop was talking about the earthquake that had just happened and I hadn't felt a thing. It was a low magnitude quake but how did everyone just a short distance away feel it and I didn't. Anyway, that is as close as I have come to an earthquake. Maybe next time...

I woke up that morning with the feeling of falling. I initially thought my wife pushed me off the bed again , but I was still on the bed (and she was out on a business trip). So thought it was a dream. Then on the news driving to work I heard it was an earthquake. Neat! :D

One guy at work had the pipe on his water heater crack, so had an inch of water in his basement.

This is the fault that made the news: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabash_Valley_Seismic_Zone

And this is the big one it's attached to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Fault

Now I am depressed. I thought I had something to do with my wife jumping around in bed and now I find it was just an ordinary old earthquake.
