Icon7 Would like to purchase a YG D/D in Southern California or online

Hi All,

I would like to purchase a used 18k YG Day/Date in San Diego/Southern California area and trade a mid-size 18k YG DJ with President band. Any suggestions who would be reliable and who would accept a trade.

I have heard of DeMesy, any thoughts on them or other dealers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Are there substantial differences between the 18238 and the 118238?

Thanks again!!!!

john

Hey John, welcome to the Forum. I have heard good things about DeMesy, infact another Forum member, Dave, just bought a DD from there and got a great price. Here's a link to their site.
http://www.demesy.com/

There are a lot of differences between the 18238 and 118238. Here are some of the updates introduced in 2000 with the "K" Series model 118238.

-Solid center links and end links (overall 35% heavier then 18238 models)
-Re-designed "End Links" that fit completely flush against case
-Polished lugs (Sides of the links are polished)
-Completely polished case (18238 was polished on sides and brushed on top)
-Slightly domed sapphire crystal
-All gold (no lume stripe) hands were introduced
-LEC (Laser Etched Crown) introduced
-Updated Diamond dial w/"Pyramid" style settings
-Lume added to "sticks" (hour markers) on the stick dial

Since the major upgrades in 2000, there have been a few more updates:
-Updated Clasp in 2003 "F" Series
-Chapter Ring in 2006 "Z" Series

Hope this helps. Good Luck and keep us updated

Hi John,
Steve is the "professor" on these and taught me well before my purchase.I bought mine from Demesy,like Steve says I was pleased with the price and felt good about wiring that kind of change.The watch,a F series 118238-light Champagne/Gold sticks, arrived next day as promissed and was in better condition then I expected (the hologram is still flashing)here is my poor pictured opening the box thread;
http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=37000

They came though fine,I dealt with Ryan-nice guy knew his DD's.They do not seem to bother answering emails and I had no luck getting them to negotiate-in fact they wanted to go higher as they had forgot to raise the price but gave me 24 hrs at old price.I would also check the for sale ads here,TZ and WZ then run them through a check here/and there. Also look at the other Grey guys,Benard,Furman,Elite to name a few.
Go for the 118238, you will pay more but the heavier bracelet/case and solid links will feel and hold up better.
keep us posted and look forward to seeing your DD arrive .
Dave

Thanks so much for your help Steve and Dave. The info is so detailed and very helpful. FYI, I did make an inquiry to DeMesy and got an e-mail from Ryan. I will continue to research this a little more, and check out the other dealers you had mentioned.

Will keep you all posted on my progress! This is really a great web site!!!!

Regards and many thanks again,

john

Hello John
If you feel that you will be better off to buy with cash rather than with a trade I would like to buy the mid-size from you.
If you do not mind please send pictures, condition and info with price
to: tempoking@yahoo.com

Let me know before you buy the used 18238 or 118238 how much they want, I might be able to supply one for less.
Brand new I can supply #118238 for $17,995

Im in LA and can connect you with a friend who's an authority when it comes to Rolex, here in Downtown. He sells and buys, plus he knows a bunch of dealers whom he calls for specific watches. Let me know if you're interested in meeting some good folks in the LA area.

Thanks to you all!

I will take your advice when I get back and do a little more research,

The "XK" came as a suggestion when I got a yahoo email accnt, as my initials were taken.

I used to have a Series I E-Type roadster. (BRG) and now drive an XK8 convertible.

(Will be in touch Dalton and Tempoking)

Regards to all,

john

Not sure if blue dial on the 118238 is an option. If it is your going to have a tough time finding one and will have to go the AD special order I suspect. If you want a blue dial then maybe a 18k Sub "bluesy" is the way to go.I looked at the 18k's but did not like the clasp as much as the DD's,also wanted something different then the every day one I have.
Have you seen one on a DD?

Another vote for Demesy.com.
I got my YG DD there about a month ago and service is 100%. I have the papers, books, etc.
I had an excellent experience with them.
Colby and Ryan are great.

Yup! I have seen the blue dial on a 18238, with and without factory diamond markers. I just want a plain blue dial. Not sure about the 118238?

I have seen the 18238 at DeMesy recently. Have not yet had the opportunity to research the 118238 in the plain blue dial for the DD.

xkjohn,
both the 18238 and 118238 are nice watchs but you really should try them both on before you decide. If you do I suspect you will buy the 118238,it has a much better feel and weight (30+%) and will IMO hold its value better.I know, that at least for myself,it was an easy buy the newer style or always wish I did.
