Need help with Rolex info.
Hello everyone,
I just registered here. I'm looking to buy a smooth bezel 36mm Rolex, i know about watches in general but i'm not an expert on Rolex, please help me find the right model for me. I have a few questions. I really like the last 36mm Explorer 14270 but i prefer a dial other than black that's why i'd like to know what other choices i would have in 36mm. I don't really like the DateJust but please tell me what models have a smooth bezel. The new Oyster Perpetual 116000 is OK but would prefer the older non-fat lugs, what is the model number of the OP model before 116000? I know about model 6424 and the president, what other models are 36mm? Thank you, Chris. |

I'd go for the classic 114270 Explorer, a truly iconic watch and not too hard to find in near mint condition, if you need another colour dial try the latest Air King

You could get a 36mm DJ with oyster band (same as the 36mm exp) and smooth bezel, with a white dial. You would have to either buy pre-owned (to have the same band with brushed center links as the explorer) or buy new and have the polished center links brushed.
It would look like this: (not my photo)

I know it's 40mm but I must at least Suggest a Daytona :) might be too busy of a bezel for you though...

I think you have all 36mm models covered. There may be 36mm YM or it may be a 35mm. |

The 116000 was the first 36mm OP. The previous generation (14xxx) had the same case as the Air-King at the time. 14203 and 14208 models (two-tone and gold, respectively) just say "Oyster Perpetual" while steel models (14010, 14000, 14200 etc.) were called "Air-Kings."
In any case, I'd recommend at least checking out the Oysterquartz. It's 36mm, and has a sweet looking case and bracelet. If quartz doesn't float your boat, then you can check out the 1530 and 1630 models. |

If you want a 36mm, smooth bezel watch; one that looks stealthy and badass, can be worn for every occasion, and has true iconic stature, I'd re-think you're position on the 114270. Who doesn't like a black dial?

Totally agree, it's the one i decided to go for. It might sound weird but the reason i was looking at the other 36mm models even if the Explorer was my favorite is because i don't really wear black and i tought i'd like for the watch dial to match what i usually wear.

It's what i wanted to know. I'm not into quartz at all and don't really like the square look of the 1530 and 1630 but thank you for the info since i didn't know about these 2, i tought only the quartz looked like that. So many Rolex models, i'm starting to get the hang of it. I'll go with the Explorer 1 36mm. |
