AD watch repair man better than Rolex?

My wife went yesterday and gave the watch to my AD. My AD says he will check the watch right away, but my wife insisted that I want Rolex Service Center to be the one to check my LV. My AD will send the watch to Rolex Service Center this monday. I hope it be done before May 20 since that is the day my wife will fly back to Mexico. My thinking is that Rolex will do a better job since they can do an exhaustive check for mistakes they did with my LV, at least to apologize and send me a LV as new. The manager of the store is the one who attended my wife and he says he has a better watch repair man than Rolex. Do you believe that? I did not want the store to check my watch since I think the only they will do is to change the watch dial and that’s it. I hope Rolex do better than that because if they don´t make me happy, I will be done with them. Come one, it is a $6,000 USD watch, not a cell phone.

I think you should have the choice on who gets to service your watch. Too bad your wifes wishes were not respected by your AD. If your watch is still under warranty or service warranty then the RSC is the way to go. However, I've read here on the forum that in some cases many AD's have service people on par or better than RSC's. Either way, it is your watch and your decision, IMHO.

I think the RSC should take care of the problem. In regards of your AD saying that his watch repair man is better than the RSC, I personally don't believe it. The RSC has all the equipment necessary to safely take care of any problem your watch may have. You paid a lot for your watch, you should have the best service for your watch. IMO.

Speaking of the superiority of RSC, don't they send it to Switzerland for re-manufacture of parts if it is an older watch and the parts are no longer available?

I suppose an indie or an AD could do this, too . . . .

The local AD doesn't have all the parts and equipment to fix like RSC. That's such BSing.

The watchmaker at my AD worked for Rolex for 30 years, retired and now works part time at my AD. He is fantastic, charges half the price and has a amazing collection of hard to find parts. I would trust him over a RSC any day, he does not work on the Daytona though, ships them out. Another great perk is that I know exactly were my watch is and don't half to worry about shipping. I would say that many AD's out their have very qualified watchmakers and can do the job just as good if not better than a RSC, and it's cheaper. Sometimes it just takes a little trust and a good relationship with your AD to get the service you deserve.

You're are correct, sir. I live in Los Angeles, the capitol of the Mexican Empire.

P.S. The Mexican Empire will be conquering Florida shortly. Prepare to give up your fancy warm clothing.

your choice honestly, i've seen some so called competant technicians, and the tools look abit dodgy. but it gets the job done. I personally would prefer RSC to take a look at it

If RSC refuses to service an older Rolex watch - which happens on an occasional basis with the strict policies of RUSA - the Rolex manufactory will also not touch it. However, there are independent RSC's like the one in San Francisco that would normally be happy to service older pieces.

Well, it depends on the AD. My AD have fully trained watchmakers and all machines necessary to carry out a full service on a Rolex watch. Lars, one of the watchmakers, is specially trained on the new Daytona movement and got the 1st. price in the exams following the course at Rolex S.A. There is no RSC in Denmark, btw. Closest official RSC is the one in Cologne. But I would not hesitate to use my AD watchmaker(-s) to service my Rolex watches.

Dweller,

In 1989, I sent a 19 year old 5513 in for service at RSC N.Y. Having been run over in highway traffic, it was badly damaged. My recollection is that they held the watch for a long time — many months. Of course, when I finally got it back, it was like new. (New to 1989 specs, not 1970 specs. Tritium dial no more. Alas, I was ignorant about the concept of "original condition" value.)

I thought I read on TRF that if RSC needed to fix something for which they had no replacement parts, they would re-manufacture the needed parts . . . assuming that they agreed to do the job in the first place. Is this possible?

Hope that's clear.

M.
