50th anniv. sub

Is Rolex ever going to stop producing the 50th anniv. sub........so the value will increase?

As would be their pattern, when they re-tool and re-design the Sub like they did with the classic GMT, they will end all remnants of what was.... for a ceramic bezel on a 45 mm head and a new mechanism...all for $8,000. list.

I was told by the Rolex salesrep at my AD that the 50th anniversary watch was a one year only item. When I first saw it in the catalogue in 2005, my notion of rarity was shattered.

I am born in 1954, and my wife thought old man gets new watch to celebrate 50 years.
I put the watch on today to remember 4 years ago.....NOT!

I think the LV will be gone after Basel 2009, when Rolex will re-do the Submariner (to their detriment). My guess is that following that, all LV's will gradually disappear from the market and their price will pop $1,000 or even higher immediately. There just aren't a whole lot of LV's around to begin with - it's (in my opinion) a good investment watch!

I think the LV sub will perform well in the future because it is a bridge from the old school to the new school.

Welcome to TRF!

Back in 2003, the LV was ahead of its time having a Maxi Dial, but imho I could very well see it getting an updated bracelet, beefed up case and green ceramic bezel.

Welcome to the forums Rolley7!

Nobody will know until the brand officially announces it will discontinue the LV. Looks like they will be continue to be produced for a least another year since no announcement was made at the Baselworld event earlier this month.

Hi, not posted here for a while, but collection now got a definate bias towards the Rolex brand. (more of that later)
Adding to the LV Sub discussion I am sure that I read somewhere that the Z serial watches without the Rolex, Rolex, Rolex on the rehaut are indeed a rarity. Can anyone confirm this ?

As far as I have learned, I believe all Z serial LV's will probably have the rehaut branding. The ones without them for a small period were the early M serial LV's for reasons I cannot remember right now but I think it had to do with a slight transition in the production of the LV. If anyone can confirm this I would appreciate it!

Does anyone feel that the F series may be worth more then any other LV Sub due to being the first year it was released and not having the RRR? What is a fair price for a preowned LV Sub?

That's a fair question, but not IMO because of the rehaut. F series examples carried the "oval" O in Rolex. Collectors love to type everything--MK I,II,III.....
I can't imagine future collectors being any different LOL!

This type would seem to represent the first of the series........

F series-oval,

D series-standard,

Of course there's the 3 tick vs. 5 tick arguement, but I'm not quite as sure about that.

I have two z series LVs - neither has the engraving. One came with the old style papers, the other with credit card "papers".

I've been told that z serials with no engraving and CC papers are a rarity...but who knows?

Anyone have any idea approximately how many LV's are out there? I absolutely love mine, sans the defective luminous material in the minute hand.
